SUMMER MATH PACKETS ARE HERE!

Is your student taking a math class next school year during the fall?  If the answer is "YES" then  they have a summer assignment called a math pre-course packet.

Pre-course packets feature skills and material that your student needs to know before they begin their math class in September.  Finishing the packet before the first day of class is a requirement and teachers may give a test or quiz on the packet material or they might count the packet as part of your student's homework grade.

The packets are available on the Math Department page of the CRLS web site or they can be obtained from your students' current math teacher, if they have one. http://crls.cpsd.us/math/crls_math

Packets can also be found in the Learning Community S office located on the 2nd floor of the Rindge Building in room 2119.

If your student has any questions, please have them talk with their current math teacher or see me in the Learning Community S or contact Jeff Gaglione, Dean of Curriculum for the Math Department at Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School at 617-349-6650.
SUMMER READING LIST:
Hey CRLS students and parents!  Did you know you can find the books for your summer reading assignment at the Cambridge Public Library?  If you're not sure which book you'd like best, just ask your librarian.

We'll also be holding book discussion sessions.  Whether you are done with, just started, or haven't even cracked the spine of your summer reading, you can come talk to some of your classmates about it.  And have a snack! And watch a movie!

FALL MUSICAL AUDITIONS:

The CRLS Fall Musical will be Ragtime, a show that takes place in turn of the century New York. The musical tells a very American story from three very different perspectives, privileged white families living in the suburbs, immigrant families newly arriving to the United States and African American families building their lives while fighting discrimination. All three groups are truly American and come together to realize that America is at its best when diverse groups unite and discrimination is overcome. The musical will be directed by Anne Marie Bookwalter who works for the Department of Visual and Performing Arts as a staff developer. She is very excited to tell this important American story at CRLS, a school that is rich in diversity. Lauren Simpson, CRLS Dance Teacher, will be choreographing.

The Dance Audition will be on June 18th from 2:45 - 4:00pm. Please wear clothes you can move in! Sign up for a slot outside the VPA offices!

STUDENT vs. STAFF BASKETBALL GAME UPDATE:
Thank you to everyone who participated in the First Annual CRLS Student vs. Staff Basketball Fundraiser on June 12. It was a great game! The staff won by 2 points. We raised quite a bit of money for Boston Children's Hospital and CRLS. Our speaker from Children's was Dr. Scott Pomeroy, neurologist-in-chief. He talked about brain disease research with an emphasis on encouraging students to follow their interests into research and science. Jimmy Tingle gave the audience many good laughs! Hope to see you there next year.
