FALL MUSICAL AUDITIONS:
The CRLS Fall Musical will be Ragtime, a show that takes place in turn of the century New York. The musical tells a very American story from three very different perspectives, privileged white families living in the suburbs, immigrant families newly arriving to the United States and African American families building their lives while fighting discrimination. All three groups are truly American and come together to realize that America is at its best when diverse groups unite and discrimination is overcome. The musical will be directed by Anne Marie Bookwalter who works for the Department of Visual and Performing Arts as a staff developer. She is very excited to tell this important American story at CRLS, a school that is rich in diversity. Lauren Simpson, CRLS Dance Teacher, will be choreographing.
All students who act, sing, or dance are encouraged to audition on June 12th and 13th afterschool in the blackbox. The Dance Audition will be on June 18th from 2:45 - 4:00pm. Please wear clothes you can move in! Sign up for a slot outside the VPA offices!

CRLS Movie Night ! Freedom Writers
Starring Hillary Swank and set in an urban school district, the movie selected by CRLS students: A feature movie based on a true story about a young teacher in an inner city school who strives to get students to be engaged, and uses writing to get them to go beyond their own groups and grow as students and people. An entertaining drama set in a high school, FREEDOM WRITERS showcases how teachers can use writing to inspire at-risk high school kids to learn tolerance, apply themselves and care about education. The movie is highly rated, entertaining and thought-provoking.
Co-sponsored by the CRLS Student Council and School Council
When? Thursday, June 13 7 pm CRLS - Fitzagerald Theater Auditorium
How much? $0
Why? It is a great movie to watch - and it's convenient and many others will be there watching. Afterwards, there will be some comments by a student and teacher.
What else? The Student Council and School Council hope to have regular movie nights - come and comment and suggest future movies. And, the movie is rated PG-13.
From common sense media:
What parents need to know:
Parents need to know that, thanks to its hip-hop soundtrack and rebellious teen characters, this drama about high school students will appeal to many kids. It deals with some mature themes -- gang violence, loss of a friend or family member, the Holocaust -- in tasteful, if formulaic, ways. Violent scenes include fighting on campus and a street shooting (a boy is killed, his bloody chest visible). Kids argue with each other and their teacher, disrespecting her verbally and laughing at her. Students discuss the Holocaust, Anne Frank, and meet a survivor who describes her ordeal. Students write about their losses in their journals, which the teacher reads out loud or in voiceover (these are sad moments). Language includes several uses of "s--t," "damn," and one use of the n-word in anger (the context is a student journal description of police abuses).

Each year, Cambridge Rindge & Latin School graduates nearly four hundred ambitious, beautiful, interesting, funny, dedicated, special, and spirited young people into the real world.
On average, 92 percent of each graduating class heads off to a two or four-year college, university, or technical school.
Every new graduate has a story to share. Here are a few, some of which were chosen on the merits of their academic standing and some of which were chosen by the school for the way in which they embody the school motto of Opportunity, Diversity, and Respect.
