Interested in helping "green" the schools?!

Come to an information meeting on the Cambridge Green Schools Initiative (CGSI) on Wendesday, February 6th 6-8:30pm. The meeting will be held in the CRLS Main Cafeteria.

The school district's Sustainability Manager, Kristen von Hoffmann, will give an update on various green programs. We are looking to engage parents and families in the effort to champion sustainability in our children's schools. We hope to create a group of "green representatives" at each school who can assist with volunteer efforts on various projects that are happening under the umbrella of the Cambridge Green Schools Initiative.

Please join us on the 6th!!! If you have any questions, please contact Sustainability Manager, Kristen von Hoffmann, at kvonhoffmann@cpsd.us.

FOCA Fitness Question of the month

Which is more important to the high school student: 45 minutes of daily rigorous math or the same dose of aerobic/strenuous exercise? You might recognize this as an inappropriately forced response question- of course both are essential to the students short as well as long term health and life success! Students can also engage in both as complimentary pursuits without conflict of interest. Why then are athletics or the many other fitness-related opportunities at (and beyond) CRLS made optional verses required like math? Boys' prep schools 'discovered' this winning athlete/scholar combination 100+ years ago and today many schools around the world require regular fitness/athletics. Why not ours? An ever-growing body of research (perhaps most note-worthy the book, Spark, by John Ratey whose office is located just a half-mile down the road on Broadway) links fitness with not only improved physical health but academic performance and social emotional competency. FOCA proposes community dialog on this topic. Join us at a meeting for discussion on many engaging fitness related topics. For more information: http://www.friendsofcambridgeathletics.org/
