AEA to Award $1,000 Toward an ADS-B Upgrade to Five Aircraft Owners at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
To help incentivize owners of general aviation aircraft to meet the Federal Aviation Administration's ADS-B Out mandate in the U.S., the Aircraft Electronics Association will randomly award five aircraft owners with $1,000 toward an ADS-B compliant upgrade during the Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture Oshkosh, July 25-31, in Wisconsin. This year marks the third consecutive year that the AEA has made the $1,000 award available to five aircraft owners. Aircraft owners may enter to win one of the five $1,000 awards at AirVenture Hangar B, booth No. 2035/2036, beginning July 25. The AEA will announce one winner each day from July 25 through July 29 via its social media outlets on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, and from its AirVenture booth in Oshkosh. Aircraft owners must be at least 18 years old to register to win. Each of the five winners must use an AEA-member avionics repair station to complete the installation, and the installation must be scheduled by Aug. 1, 2017. One entry gives aircraft owners a chance to win each of the five daily drawings. More...

ADS-B Out Rebate Program
Section 221 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 provided the FAA with the authority to establish an incentive program for equipping general aviation and commercial aircraft with communications, surveillance, navigation and other avionics equipment. Thus, the FAA is establishing an initiative (the ADS-B Rebate Program) to address the rate of general aviation equipage by incentivizing those aircraft owners who are affected by the ADS-B Out requirements and are the most price sensitive to the cost of avionics and the associated installation. The ADS-B Rebate Program will provide a one-time $500 rebate to an aircraft owner to defray some of the cost of an ADS-B Out system meeting the program eligibility requirements. The rebates will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Read the eligibility requirements in this month's Avionics NewsMore...

Trego-Dugan Aviation lands STCs for ADS-B
During the last two years, Trego-Dugan Aviation of Grand Island, Nebraska, has been working hard on ADS-B Out solutions. This spring, the family owned FAA-approved Part 145 service center received a supplemental type certificate for FreeFlight Systems' 1201 WAAS/GPS sensor, and expects FAA approval on a second one later this summer. "We're focusing on ADS-B in the avionics department," said Aaron Hall, director of avionics and chief inspector for Trego-Dugan Aviation. "There are a lot of aircraft that have to be ADS-B compliant. We've created a low-cost, streamlined solution for the 1090 output." Trego-Dugan Aviation's first STC pairs the FreeFlight 1201 sensor with the Garmin GTX 330ES Mode S transponder, while the other STC integrates with Avidyne's AXP340 Mode S transponder, providing ADS-B Out compliance. More...
