2,913 instances of services including social services, education, health and well-being, arts and culture, housing, financial literacy, job development and food security, were provided at our Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center and Connections for Hope Partnership.

115 clients were assisted by Cornerstones' Certified Application Counselors to enroll in health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

426 households (1,031 beneficiaries)
were served through our Emergency and Self-Sufficiency Services Program. 306 households

received bags of food and toiletry items, 65 households received information and referrals, and 123 participated in life skills classes. $914 was provided to help 2 households in financial crisis to avoid rental eviction.

 

Emergency and Supportive Housing Programs served 547 individuals. The Family Shelter Program served 16 families (totaling 55 individuals: 20 adults and 35 children. Eight families left the shelter for permanent housing. The Singles Shelter served 34 individuals of which 8 were permanently house. 

 

The Foreclosure Prevention program assisted 19 households, of which 4 households (13 beneficiaries) have been able to bring resolution to their case to avoid foreclosure.

 

Through our Pro Bono Legal Clinic at the Southgate Community Center, 22 people were given free consultation with a lawyer.

 

Community Case Management provided services to 14 families and 4 singles to keep them stably housed and out of homelessness.   

 

Our Healthy Families program served 87 participants to prevent child abuse and help at-risk families stay healthy. 

The April 10th Gala will draw an audience of 800 guests to award eight honorees for their commitment to community service, and will recognize the 50th year of the founding of Reston and the 100th birthday of its founder, Robert E. Simon. Read more >>

Proceeds from Best of Reston and the "I Stand With Bob" campaign will help Cornerstones double its stock of affordable housing units -- providing real options for our neighbors to care for themselves and their children, gain self-sufficiency and independence. Read More >>

Advocacy Update

Cornerstones strongly supports Medicaid extension and has joined voices with businesses, hospitals, community organizations and nonprofit partners across the state to advocate in favor of expanding. You can aid our efforts by encouraging your personal legislators to vote in favor of legislation that expands Medicaid. Read more >> 

 

Open House Highlights Need for Affordable Housing  

HomeAid of Northern Virginia, The Container Store and Graceful Spaces recently renovated a local townhouse which is rented at affordable rates to residents who earn half or less than the area's median income--most of whom are transitioning out of homelessness. Read More >>
