Do you take medications? Many different medications have side effects that can contribute to oral problems. Communicating these concerns will become part of your visit. Read our latest blog post Are you on schedule for your hygiene visit? Many patients are seen every six months. However, If you have gum disease, your appointments will be more frequent and may include specialized therapies. Was your last visit an emergency treatment? Are you in the middle of treatment with the dentist as a result? Your dental hygienist can talk with you about any concerns you have and help you feel more comfortable in the dental chair. Do you have any discomfort in your mouth? The dental hygienist will examine the intra-oral and extra-oral tissues, the teeth and gum tissue. Since you are not able to clearly see certain areas in your mouth, these findings are key to locating tooth decay, irritations/lesions and communicating to the dentist any results that may become part of your treatment need. Have you had your preventive x-rays? Griswold Dental now uses digital x-rays. Preventive x-rays called bitewings are an integral part of your exam. Without this type of x-ray the dentist cannot see between the teeth. Since so many patients do not floss daily, this is a very important treatment during your hygiene visit. Do you have facial pain or find yourself clenching your teeth? There are several reasons that you may have facial pain, headaches or chipped teeth. During your exam your hygienist will note areas of wear on your teeth, muscle tenderness and inquire about any changes in your life that may have affected your daily stress level. This and so much more is wrapped into the oral examination completed by your professional dental hygienist! The Griswold Dental Team work together to provide the highest standard of care possible for our patients. |
