Last Chance!
Monday, February 29 is the final day to re-enroll for the 2016-2017 school year at a reduced rate.  Open Enrollment and regular fees go into effect on Tuesday, March 1.   If you have questions as to whether you have successfully completed the online process, please contact Joanne Heiser at jheiser@shannonforest.com.
 
Re-enrollment rates (per student) are as follows:
Monday, February 1 - Monday, February 29 - $310
March 1 - Open Enrollment begins. Regular enrollment fees apply - $450 for each student.
 

Head of School Search Update
The Head of School Search Committee hosted its first candidate campus visit this week and it was a very positive experience.  Every classroom toured was full of active, engaged and on-task students.  Our visitor was met with friendliness and professionalism.  We will be visited by a second candidate in mid-March.  The timeline of securing a new Head of School by the end of this school year is on track and we will continue to share updates as progress continues. Shannon Forest Premieres All-School International Week!
Shannon Forest will celebrate the growing global community of both our school and our city with an all-school International Week!  From Monday, March 7 - Friday, March 11, our campus will be alive with sights, sounds 
and tastes from all over the world!
 


International Week just around the corner, so we asked several of our ESOL students to share their thoughts about the International Shannon Experience.

Meet Crusader of the Week Chaz Lopez! He has attended Shannon Forest Christian School for 3 years and is in Mrs. Spurgeon's 3rd Grade class.  Chaz's friends describe him as funny and engaging. "I can make anyone laugh in less than three seconds," claimed Chaz.  Social Studies is his favorite class. While learning about South Carolina's history, Chaz and his classmates reenact Revolutionary War scenes to better understand the era. They are looking forward to putting their facts to music in their South Carolina History Program at the end of the year. Check back next week to meet another student from Shannon Forest Christian School.

Important Spring West Campus Carline Message!
With the arrival of spring athletics, we are bursting at the seams with the number of teams and athletes competing this season.  With 7 teams taking the field, comprised of over 120 athletes, we have a busy atmosphere in the afternoon while our teams are conducting practices.  Adding to the West Campus, already teeming with activity in the afternoon, we have over 40 students participating in rehearsals for our spring musical, Seussical, Jr., arriving and exiting the Gymnasium area. 
 

Friday Is THE LAST Day to Purchase a Yearbook at the Reduced Price!
Shannon Forest 2015-2016 yearbooks are currently on sale for $69.  The last day to guarantee receipt of a book is Friday, February 26.  After this date the price increases to $73 and books are only available on a first come, first serve basis. You may purchase a yearbook online until Friday, April 29.  Simply go to www.jostens.com and enter Shannon Forest Christian School.

ATHLETICS NEWS
Welcome Mr. Freeman!
Shannon Forest welcomes Scott Freeman as our new Middle School Baseball Coach! Scott oversees the Community Groups ministry at Grace Church. Prior to joining the staff at Grace, he taught English and previously served as Head Baseball Coach at Mauldin High School. We're glad you're on our team!

Winter Sports Awards
Our winter Crusader athletes will be honored on Tuesday, March 8, at 
6:00 p.m. in the East Campus Sanctuary.  

MIDDLE/UPPER SCHOOL NEWS

Shannon Forest 9th - 12th Grade students met at the Pelham Road Chick-fil-A last week to kick-off our Fellowship of Christian Athletes program.  Students will meet every Thursday from 6:30 - 7:30 a.m. Come join us! For more information, contact Nate Muse at nmuse@shannonforest.com.

Attendance is mandatory as the teachers will be using this time to proctor mock exams in their respective subjects to equip our students for their upcoming exams.  Students will eat lunch from 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.


In honor of the recent South Carolina primary, a group of 8th Grade students held a mock debate featuring five candidates: Mary Elise Clement as Donald Trump, Bri Weirick as Hillary Clinton, Jake Goin as Marco Rubio, Jack Cummings as Bernie Sanders and Luke Alsborg as Ted Cruz. Their hard work and research showed in this extra credit project!

SFCS Sophomores to EXPLORE Innovative Work Environments
Current Shannon Forest sophomores will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina from Sunday, February 28 - Tuesday March 1, to visit multiple innovative work environments that break down the barriers of the traditional office setting.


Upstate South Carolina National College Fair Scheduled
Over 100 colleges and universities will be represented at the upcoming Upstate South Carolina College Fair.  The fair is free to all parents and students.  All sophomores and juniors are strongly encouraged to attend on Saturday, March 19, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the TD Convention Center.

Pre-registration gives all students a barcode (either a hard copy or on your device) to bring with you to the fair!  Each college will have a scanner, and can collect all of your information electronically. A Grande Affair Tickets Available Now!
Juniors and seniors...have a "Roaring Good Time" at this year's prom, "A Grande Affair" on Saturday, April 23.    Tickets are on sale now for $20 in advance from Mrs. Blair or $25 at the door.

LOWER SCHOOL NEWS

Our 3rd Grade students became geologists this week!  They explored the differences between rocks and minerals with tasty Rock Cookies!  Who knew geology could be so delicious?  Pictured are Morgan Flynn, Samuel Madubuike, Kynlee Campbell, Ethan Flynn, Chaz Lopez, and Tucker Shealy.


Congratulations to Shannon Forest 5th Grade student Ben Stubbs who was selected as a winning artist for this year's Upstate Heart Ball kid's heART Poster Contest!   Ben, his parents and teacher Jennifer Wheeler all received complimentary tickets to this year's Heart Ball where winners were recognized in a special presentation.

Summer at Shannon registration has begun!  This fun-filled program for students in KT - 5th Grade (completed) runs from 
Tuesday, May 31, - Tuesday, August 16, 2016.
 

FINE ARTS NEWS
Award Winning Artist & Teacher to Lead Choir Clinic 
at SFCS
OnFriday, March 4,Dr. Seth Killen will visit and lead a clinic with our Concert Choir in preparation for the SCISA Music Festival.  Dr. Killen joined the North Greenville University faculty in the Fall of 2014.  Previously he served on the faculties of Transylvania University and Eastern Illinois University.  He holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts with a cognate in voice pedagogy from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music.
