Shannon Forest Welcomes SACS Accreditation Team & Highlights Notable Achievements

In April of 2014, the school officially separated from its host/parent church.  As a result, the school has gained, among other things, autonomy in decision making which has led to pronounced gains in overall operational efficiency.  This shift has enabled the administration to keep its primary focus on academics, reduce response time, be more proactive in planning, and accomplish tasks in a timelier manner.  The following narrative was submitted to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) highlighting the school's achievements of the last five years.  The SACS accreditation team will be visiting our campus on Monday, March 23, and Tuesday, March 24.

Seniors and Chaperones to Minister in Costa Rica

A group of 21members of our senior class and 4 chaperones will be ministering to the people of Costa Rica from Friday, March 27, through Saturday, April 4. The group will be working in two locations; La Cuenca and Cot. La Cuenca (literally "the basin") is home to approximately 800 Nicaraguan refugees - both women and children - who live in corrugated metal shacks in a "squatter village."  Our students will lead in a program for the children of this community - both through worship and games.  Cot is a very small mountain village where our students will work alongside a local High School program concentrating on developing success among their students.  The group will also visit a sugar cane plantation, tour a volcano, and zip line through the rainforest before heading for home.

6th Grade Barrier Island Experience

Shannon Forest's 6th Grade class recently attended the annual Barrier Island Environmental Program run by St. Christopher's Camp and Conference Center.  The trip was full of fun, educational activities and team building exercises. Students tried their hand at seining (fishing with a large net) in an estuary, went crabbing, communed with dolphins and gators, went hiking through a maritime forest and of course, got very muddy in the salt marsh during this memorable 6th Grade trip!
