Ansley Pedersen Spearheads Baking for Change Project

Shannon Forest 3rd Grade student Ansley Pedersen loves to draw and decided that love could be used to raise money to help the poor.  Ansley's mom encouraged her to find an organization that helped the needy and form a partnership.  Together they found Miracle Hill.  Just by drawing pictures, Ansley and her friend raised over twenty dollars.  Ansley's idea spread to the entire Pedersen family and soon Emma Ruth, Bear and Stella - as well as other families from their church - were planning a bake sale that ended up raising $576!  The project was recently featured in the Miracle Hill Ministries winter publication.  Ansley hoped to encourage others to do the same.  "If this excites you, go and do it, too," she said.  "Sometimes it's hard, but do your best.  It is working for God and that is what is most important about life.  Follow the Lord and he will lead you!"

Kendel Maxwell's K5 class has been learning about the twelve disciples and what it means to be "fishers of men."  Joshua Godsey and Chase Davey try their hand at fishing.  When the students caught one, they had to do the kind deed that was written on the fish.

Shannon Forest Welcomes Visitor From Chile

Improving her English to help reach her dream of becoming a teacher is the main goal of Valentina Vaccaro, our visitor from Santiago, Chile.  Valentina is staying with the Auffarth family and taking morning classes at Shannon Forest until the end of March.  This is not the first time she has visited the United States.  When Valentina was 15-years-old she traveled to Miami and Orlando, Florida for a vacation.  She is loving her time in Greenville and says, "The people are really nice, very open, friendly and welcoming!"  Valentina is enjoying her classes at Shannon and particularly loves singing in the choir.  Her next adventure is a trip to downtown Greenville with a couple of classmates.  Welcome Valentina, we're glad you're here!

The East Campus (LS) recently enjoyed having Esmeralda Leandro as its Spanish teacher. Esmeralda is from Cot in Costa Rica, the area that our seniors travel to each year.  You may remember her from last January when she and eight other teachers and administrators visited our campus for two weeks.
