One Last Look at Silva-Mester Fun!
Kathryn Taylor's College and Career Choices class enjoyed a very active two weeks.
Students heard from visitor Sarah Thompson (our own Upper School teacher Daniel Thompson's wife) about her job as an Occupational Therapist. As an activity to simulate some of the exercises she does with her clients on a day-to-day basis, students had to ice a cupcake with one hand! Braden Tuttle was up for the challenge.
Participants took a tour of the BMW Plant, visited Anderson University and toured Wofford College, where they paused to admire the exclusive senior housing called "The Village." The course also included mock interviews with professionals from various fields. Prior to their interviews, students got to participate in an interactive "how to interview presentation" with two Admission Counselors from Furman University. Anytime the Counselor playing the interviewee made a mistake, students got to pelt him with marshmallows!
(Front row) Stephen Glenn, Nick Gray, Will Maddox, JP Frazier, Andrew Duwe, Victor Prieto and Braden Tuttle (Back row) Dave Oliveira (Manager, Finance and Analytics at Advance America), Kate Oliveira (Senior Associate, Transaction Real Estate at Ernst & Young), Wes Lambert (Attorney at Harper, Lambert, & Brown), Hayes Holliday (Attorney at the Leinster Law Firm), Sydney Hammond (Development Coordinator at Meals on Wheels), Claire Garst (Admission Counselor at Furman University), Warner Watkins, Amber Thompson and Luke Horne. (Third row) Eric Ahlstrand (Admission Counselor at Furman University)
Our international travelers continued their tour to Granada where they toured the Alhambra palace and fortress. Students also enjoyed the City Challenge which was a scavenger hunt that took them all around the city center to different shops and landmarks. They even got to practice their Spanish with the local people!
Then the group traveled to Morocco via a ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar. In Morocco, they visited the School for the National Arts and Crafts and spent the rest of the day in the Medina which is the oldest part of the city. Walking through the narrow and winding streets they experienced people selling everything from jewelry to raw chicken!

Master the SAT Class There's still time to register for the "Master the SAT Class" offered through College Prep Genius! First Time Visitors from Costa Rica Are Enjoying Greenville
Greenville and Shannon Forest have been home for the month of January for students Melissa Chacón and Christian Pérez Solano. The students are from Cartago, Costa Rica and go to school in Cot, the location of past senior mission trips. This is their first time visiting the United States. When asked about their visit, both said that Greenville is beautiful and they are really enjoying their stay. "Everyone is very friendly and welcoming," added Melissa and Christian. Their goals for being here include meeting new people, making new friends, learning about a different culture, seeing new places and working to improve their English for a better future. We're glad you're here Melissa and Christian!
