SFCS to Join SCISA in 2015-2016 School Year

We are excited to announce that SFCS will be joining the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year.  The School Board, Administration and Athletic Department feel that this move will have a positive impact on all of our students.  The schools our athletes will compete against in SCISA will be more closely aligned in size and enrollment, allowing for a more competitive environment.  In addition, travel times for conference games will be reduced significantly.  Shannon Forest also looks forward to the partnership with SCISA in not only athletics, but also in academic, fine arts and professional development opportunities.

Dinner and a flamenco show ended a memorable day in Barcelona!"

SFCSxDESIGN NEWS

A determined group of 7th Grade students stayed behind in the frigid drizzle to get the first permanent wall of the pallet house in place.

6th Grade students were challenged with the design project to construct a prototype of a low-cost doghouse suitable for a certain breed of dog in a particular environment.  Sam Wheeler, Emma Sexton, Grace Rothman and Gabriel Makowski created a new home for an imaginary dog named Sesame who is a Chihuahua living in Alaska.  She needed a low-cost source of heat inside her shelter.  The students proposed skylights and a dog bed filled with hand-warmers so that when Sesame moves, she will create heat by friction.  Sesame should have a warm winter thanks to the creative thinking of our students!

Ian Waldrop, Madeline Makowski, Melissa Chacn (visiting student from Costa Rica), Annabelle Armfield and Julia Volk hoist a pallet to build a wall in the transitional housing design project.

K5 & Lower School Students to Partner in Creative

Cardboard Challenge

Shannon Forest students in K5 - 5th Grade will take part in the first ever "Cardboard Challenge in the Forest" on Thursday, January 29, and Friday, January 30. The cardboard challenge is a worldwide celebration of child creativity that was inspired by a young boy who built an arcade out of cardboard.  Younger students will be paired with our older students to collaborate and create their own unique designs out of cardboard and other materials.  A generous donation of materials, including cardboard, tape, and glue has been offered to us from Progressive Packaging.  We would also like to ask our families to save materials as well - anything from bottle tops to wrapping paper tubes, to empty K cups. The more materials we offer, the more creative the students can be!  Collected items can be delivered to the Lower School Office.
