Call-A-Thon Total Breaks School Record!

Thank YOU for saying "YES" to this year's Call-A-Thon.  With the help of our amazing student callers, our Shannon Forest community raised over $21,000 - a record-breaking amount in the history of our school!  It's never too late to join our growing list of 2014-2015 Annual Fund donors.


 


 


Shannon Forest Honors 51 Duke TIP 4th - 6th Grade

Talent Search Participants

A grand total of 51 Shannon Forest students have qualified to participate in the highly selective Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) 4th - 6th Grade Talent Search.  That's an amazing 57%!   The Duke TIP Program has helped recognize the potential and growth of gifted students since 1980.  Students were identified through standardized achievement and/or ability tests.  Scores were required to be at or above the 95th percentile in qualifying areas.  Congratulations to all of our Duke Tip students!

Buy Your Reusable Grocery Bags Today & Help the Shannon Forest Hunger Project!

Shannon Forest is working to raise $10,000 for the Shannon Forest Hunger Project -Feeding Children Everywhere.  Purchase one or more of our specially designed, reusable grocery bags for just $5 per bag and feed a child for SEVEN days!  The bags are yours to keep and use again and again!  Bags are available at ANY school office or from Student Council members.

Thursday & Friday Spirit Week Activities!

Thursday, November 13

-Upper School: Country vs. Country Club Day

-Lower School: Country/Farmer Day

-Upper School Lunch features a Country Plate: two pieces of fried chicken, chips, Moon Pie, tea or lemonade OR Country Club Plate:  chicken salad on a croissant, fruit salad, key lime or apple pie, tea or lemonade.  Each meal is $5.

-Men's Alumni Basketball Game at 6:00 p.m.

 

Friday, November 14

-All School Spirit Day - come dressed in your Crusader spirit wear!

-Upper School Tailgate lunch - purchase a variety of tailgate foods and a drink for $5.

-FREE Crusader Tattoos available during Upper and Lower School lunches

-All-School Pep Rally in the Upper School Gymnasium.  The fun begins at 2:20 p.m.

-Women's Varsity Basketball Game at 5:15 p.m.

-Men's Varsity Basketball Game at 6:30 p.m.         

-Crowning Ceremony following the game

Spread the News About Our November Open House

Prospective families of students in all grades are invited to visit Shannon Forest Christian School on Friday, November 21, at 9:00 a.m. for an Open House.  A general information session will be held in the East Campus Multi-purpose Room, followed by tours of individual grade levels.  Invite your friends and neighbors to join our community for 2015-2016!  Remember, current SFCS families will receive a $250 recruitment credit for each family they refer to our school who enrolls for next year!  For more information, or to refer a family, email Lynn Pittman at [email protected].

 


 

Popular Crusader Club Poinsettia Sale Returns!

The SFCS Crusader Club is delighted to once again bring you the 2014 Poinsettia Sale from Roebuck Greenhouses.  Orders are due by Monday, November 24.  We're also interested in contacting businesses, churches or other organizations who may want to enhance their holiday decorating with these beautiful Roebuck poinsettias! Custom plant sizes and foil wrap options may be available for large orders. Please ask us so we can try to accommodate your large order needs. 

Forms are available at the link below and at all school offices. Completed order forms may be dropped off with payment to any school office or mailed to the school.

Plants will arrive on Monday, December 1and may be picked up in the East Campus (LS) Gymnasium Meeting Room. Delivery arrangements for large orders can be made upon request. If you have any questions or suggestions for large order customers, please contact Deeder Stone at [email protected].

Mrs. Thompson's 3rd Grade class recently welcomed 15 new class pets in the form of mealworms!  The students are raising mealworms into darkling beetles to learn more about the complete metamorphosis of insects.  Mackenzie Hayes gets a magnified view of a new class pet.

Students in Mrs. Garrigan's 2nd Grade class presented a tableau about prayer in a recent chapel.   A tableau is a group of models or motionless figures representing a scene from a story or from history; or topic representation.

 

ATHLETIC NEWS

November Crusader Crazies Day & Cookout!

Mark your calendars for our next Crusader Crazies Day & Cookout on Monday, November 17!  The Crusader Club will once again be offering a cookout lunch on the West Campus (US) featuring burgers for $3.  Or, wear your Crusader Crazies t-shirt and get a burger for just $2!  Every student who wears a Crusader Crazies shirt to the games or swim meet that evening will get a Crusader Buck to spend at the concessions stand for use at any time during the season. The game schedule is as follows:

Varsity Women's Basketball vs. Greer Middle College - 5:00 p.m.

Varsity Men's Basketball vs. Greer Middle College - 6:30 p.m.

Varsity Swim Meet at Converse College - 6:30 p.m. 

ENRICHMENT NEWS

Intramural Basketball Adds a BONUS Week!

Include your KT - 2nd Grade student in the fun as Coach Megan Harper introduces the basics of Basketball.  This intramural session has been extended through Wednesday, December 10. Register today and start next week! 

KT - 2nd Grade Basketball: Wednesdays on November 12, 19, December 3 & 10

3rd - 5th Grade Basketball: Wednesdays on January 7, 14, 21, 28 & February 4

Gold week time: 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. 

Green week time:  3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Heiser Music Makers Excel in Festival

The "music makers" of Bonnie Heiser's piano classes recently entered the Greenville Music Teachers Association (GMTA) Piano Skills Festival and achieved impressive results.  The ten students participating included: Conner Breazeale, Lauren Doughty, Ben Garrison, Faith Gilmore, Katlyn Goad, Julia Harris, Paige Harris, Brooke Tattershall, Morgan Weiner, Harrison Wile.  The students received skill scores of Mastery, Outstanding and Advancing. Congratulations to Conner Breazeale, Morgan Weiner and Paige Harris for receiving an overall Mastery in their level.  Paige Harris earned the highest score possible in all five events!
