One More Day to Pledge!

The entire Shannon Forest Community enjoyed a brisk morning at the Boosterthon Fun Run today!  The Varsity Cross Country team led the runners in the first inaugural lap, then students PK3 -5th Grades ran to earn the pledges they had received from friends and family.  Our Upper School students led the crowd in cheers for their teams.  Thank you to everyone who came to support our students today! 


 
We've had a fun week with the Boosterthon team and due to a busy week last week, we're giving our community ONE MORE DAY to receive pledges!  Log on to 
and pledge for your PK3 - 5th Grade student by the end of Thursday, October 23!

Family Enrichment Night Focuses on Hot Topic!

The first Family Enrichment Night will be held on Tuesday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the East Campus (LS) Multi-purpose Room.  All are encouraged to come learn about the power of body image and how to help a child prevent or heal from the negative ramifications of disordered eating, perfectionism, performance driven identity, as well as destructive behaviors like promiscuity, cutting, and substance use. 

  • There is NO COST for this event.
  • 'Movie & Popcorn' childcare for PK3-5th Grade will be provided at NO COST by FlexTime.
  • Come early for pizza at 6:15 p.m. to eliminate any dinner rush. Cost is $2 per slice (includes choice of beverage, veggies and dessert).

Impact Day Drivers Needed

Friday, October 31, will be our next 7th- 12th Grade IMPACT Service Day and drivers are needed!  Any member, regardless of the age of your student, is invited to help our students make a difference on this special day of service.  If you would like to be an IMPACT driver, please email Chris Conover at cconover@shannonforest.com.  


 
Spirit Week 2014 Is Coming! 

Start getting your "costumes" ready now!  Homecoming Spirit Week will be held the week of November 10, with creative dress-up days to pump up our Crusader Spirit!

Upper School students will follow the dress-up days below:

Monday, November 10: Pajama Day

Tuesday, November 11: Mathlete vs. Athlete Day

Wednesday, November 12: Comi-con Day (come dressed as a favorite character)

Thursday, November 13:  Country vs. Country Club Day (country camo or country club prep?)

Friday, November 14:  Crusader Spirit Day

 

Lower School students will follow the dress-up days below:

Spirit Week Night at the Movies!

The Fine Arts Booster Club (FAB) invites you to kick off Spirit Week with a Night at the Movies on Friday, November 7, from 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.  Cruise on in to the West Campus (US) Softball Field and enjoy the movie Mr. Peabody & Sherman, bonfires, s'mores, baked goods, glow sticks and more!  The movie will start around 7:30 p.m. Donations are appreciated. All proceeds will benefit the Shannon Forest Concert Choir trip to Chicago in March. For more information, please contact Ashley King at aking@shannonforest.com.


UPPER SCHOOL NEWS

SFCS Juniors Continue to PURSUE College Interests

The junior class will continue visitations to area colleges and universities as a part of the school's PURSUE Program.  On Monday, October 27, groups of 11th Grade students will travel to Clemson University, Anderson University, Presbyterian College and the University of South Carolina - Columbia to tour campuses and meet with admissions personnel.

 

Silva-Mester Information Released this Week

Silva-Mester is a two-week, mini-semester program for students in 9th-12th Grades in which our Crusaders willhave the opportunity to receive instruction in a wide variety of unique topics.  Students will study two courses during the ten-day program, attending one course in the morning and one class in the afternoon, each spanning three hours.  Silva-Mester will take place from Monday, January 5 - Friday, January 16, 2015.  The 2014-2015 catalog will be posted to www.shannonforest.com on Thursday, October 23.  In the catalog you will find course descriptions, any additional fees, registration information and much more.  The registration schedule is as follows:

Monday, October 27 - Seniors only

Tuesday, October 28 - Juniors only

Wednesday, October 29 - Sophomores only

Thursday, October 30 - Freshmen only

Course fees do NOT have to be paid in order to reserve a seat in any course; however, all fees MUST be paid by Monday, November 3, or the student will be removed from their first choices and placed in one of the free classes.   

 

Sophomores to Explore Career Paths

Sophomores will take the ASVAB Career Exploration test on Wednesday, November 5, at

1:30 p.m. after the Gold Wednesday early dismissal. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is designed to help students learn more about themselves.  It can help identify a student's interests, clarify what is important to them and help them better understand their abilities.  This test is an important element of the EXPLORE Program at Shannon Forest, and will help guide students as they think and plan for college and their future careers.  (The ASVAB is administered by the Armed Services; however, the scores will NOT be released to anyone other than the students.)

 

Homecoming Dance Details!

All Shannon Forest 9th - 12th Grade students are invited to attend this year's Homecoming Dance on Saturday, November 8, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. in the East Campus (LS) Multi-Purpose Room.  Light refreshments will be served and our own Coach Heppeard will be the DJ!  This year, tickets will go on sale the week before the dance.  Tickets can be purchased during Upper School lunch from Monday, November 3, through Friday, November 7, and are $7 for advanced purchase or $10 at the door the night of the dance.

  • Homecoming date forms are available in Mrs. Thompson's Office. If a student is bringing someone to Homecoming that is not a current 9th-12th Grade student, a date form MUST be submitted for Administrative approval. All date forms are due by the end of the day on Friday, October 31.
  • 9th-12th Grade girls that did not receive information regarding dress code for Homecoming should stop by Mrs. Thompson's Office to obtain a copy.

ATHLETICS NEWS

Crusader Crazies Day is Thursday!

Crusader Crazies Day is Thursday, October 23. The Crusader Club will be selling hamburgers during Upper School lunch for $3 each.  Any Upper School student wearing a Crusader Crazies T-shirt, old or new, can purchase a burger at a discount price of only $2. Any student wearing a Crusader Crazies T-shirt to the football game on Thursday will receive one Crusader Buck at the gate for use at the concessions stand. Go Crusaders!  

 

Crusader Football Team Continues Winning Streak at 6-0!

Our Crusader football team traveled to Rabun Gap, Georgia on Saturday, October 20, for their second road game in two weeks. This was also the second meeting for these two teams this year. The Crusaders got off to a great start by scoring 27 points in the first quarter which began by Noah Horton returning a fumble for 30 yards. Julius Thompson led all rushers with 78 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 35 yard interception return and a 24 yard reception for a total of 4 touchdowns.  Qua White added two touchdowns by returning a punt and kick-off for touchdowns. The entire team played well for four quarters and came away with a 54-0 win. SFCS' female kicker, Caroline Stewart, continued to kick well by connecting on 6 of 7 extra points. The highlight of the game was a 53 yard touchdown run by Barton Loper.  

The Crusaders' last game of the season is this Thursday, October, 23, at 6:00 p.m. when they host Blue Ridge High School. 
 

SFCS Varsity Cross Country Team Speeds To State Meet

Our Cross Country Team competed in the CAA Conference Meet at Asheville Christian Academy on Friday, October 17.  The Varsity Men's team came in 2nd overall, led by All-Conference runners Luke Horne (junior) and Nick Gregoire (senior).  The Varsity Women's team scored in 4th place overall, led by juniors Lauren Alsborg, Emily Goad and freshman Katlyn Goad.  The SFCS Varsity team has one more week left in their season, culminating in the NCISAA State Meet on Friday, October 24.  

 

Lady Crusaders Head to Quarterfinals!

The Varsity Women's Volleyball team won the opening match against Lee Christian in the NCISAA State tournament by a score of 3-0.  SFCS will play United Faith in the quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, in Greensboro, North Carolina.  

 

Celebrate & Honor Our Fall Athletes!

Our fall Crusader athletes will be honored on Tuesday, November 4, at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  Athletes will be awarded trophies for Most Valuable Player, top Academics, Coaches Award and Most Improved player of the season.
