Family Enrichment Night Scheduled

A Panel Discussion on Body Image and Its Repercussions

Shannon Forest's Enrichment Department will present the first in a series of hot topics for today's family on Tuesday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the East Campus (LS) Multi-purpose Room.  The purpose is to bring a spotlight to the areas that most affect our students and offer understanding and resources. Parents, teens, coaches, grandparents, educators and youth pastors are all encouraged to come learn about the power of body image and how to help a child prevent or heal from the negative ramifications such as disordered eating, perfectionism, performance driven identity, as well as destructive behaviors like promiscuity, cutting, and substance use. Our panel will consist of professional counselors as well as a few testimonies, followed by Q & A.

There will be no cost for these enrichment nights and they are open to all!  Invite your church, family, friends, and neighbors as we strive to be a positive family support in our community.  You can easily share the event from Facebook at www.facebook.com/shannonforestschool

  • 'Movie & Popcorn' childcare for PK3-5th Grade will be provided at no cost by FlexTime.
  • Come early for pizza at 6:15 p.m. to eliminate any dinner rush. Cost is $2 per slice (includes choice of beverage, veggies and dessert).

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROFILE

Senior Nikola Kozomara Enjoying Shannon Forest

Atmosphere and Experience

This week the International Student Profile spot features senior and first-year 22ft Academy member Nikola Kozomara from Belgrade, Serbia.  Nikola is at home on the basketball court having played for six years on a club team back home.  Attending school at Shannon Forest is a unique experience for Nikola.  He is used to a much larger school with approximately 37 students in each class.  "I am much closer to the professors at Shannon," said Nikola.  "It is easier to learn."  While he has some language barrier challenges, Nikola finds his Shannon Forest classmates are always willing to help.  Life in the small town of Greenville is also a change for Nikola.  "I lived in the city center in Belgrade, so there is a big difference living here," he said.  Nikola hopes to continue his basketball career at a college in the United States.  He is also interested in studying medicine.  "Perhaps my interest in medicine comes from my parents," remarked Nikola.  Both parents are in the medical field.  Nikola also has an older brother back home.  His recent experience at Windy Gap was rated as GREAT!  We're glad you're here, Nikola!
