Shannon Forest Partners with Palmetto Kids FIRST Scholarship Program

Shannon Forest Christian School is happy to be partnering with Palmetto Kids FIRST Scholarship program!  The program is a South Carolina nonprofit 501(c)(3) that provides K5-12th Grade scholarships for eligible "exceptional needs" children to attend the independent school of their parent's choice. Palmetto Kids FIRST is also looking for donors!  Donors receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their South Carolina income tax for donations to the Palmetto Kids FIRST Scholarship Fund.  Redirect your tax dollars at no cost!  For more information, refer to the link below or contact Emily Watkins at

Operation Bear Hug Continues!

Don't forget to drop off your donation of new or gently used huggable bears or stuffed animals to the Early Childhood Office NOW through Tuesday, September 16!  The bears are collected and re-distributed to agencies such as police departments, DSS and area children's homes who use the bears to offer comfort to children in crisis situations.   This year, $1 will be donated to the Hunger Project for every stuffed animal collected!

Debbie Patterson's KT students - Owen DuBose, Graham Mathias and Rachel Samuel helped count stuffed animals for "Operation Bear Hug."  KT knows how to turn work into "fun and learning."  The children sorted and classified the donations.


 


 


 
Shannon Today Airs First Edition of the School Year

The popular Shannon Today morning show has posted its first edition of the school year.  Simply go to shannonforest.com and click on the 'Academics' drop down menu to find the link to the broadcast.  You can also access it through youtube.  This is a weekly school news show put on by our IGNITE students.  The featured sports team this week is the Varsity women's Volleyball team.  Be sure to tune in...there is something for everyone to enjoy.

September CHADD Meeting

CHADD, the parent-led support group for parents and guardians with children having ADHD, will hold a meeting on Tuesday, September 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the church Coffee Room.  The group will be hosting Advanced Therapy Solutions.  Discussions will focus on Occupational Therapy aid for ADHD symptoms.

Juniors who traveled to North Carolina for the recent PURSUE trip posed for photos at Wake Forest University and Davidson College.  The group also took a driving tour of the University of North Carolina - Charlotte.


 
Juniors who traveled to Georgia attended an information session at Georgia Tech and took a walking tour of Emory University.  Students also toured Oglethorpe University.


 
 

6th - 12th Grades Enjoy Surprise Pep Rally

What seemed like a regular Friday ended with TONS of Crusader Spirit when 6th - 12th Grade students were called to the West Campus (US) Gymnasium for a surprise pep rally last Thursday.  


 
Students did the limbo in to the rally and cheered on fellow classmates and Faculty members competing in fun-filled contests.

Math Superstars & SEEDS Programs Volunteer Opportunities!

A 1st - 4th Grade Math Superstars parent orientation meeting will be held on Friday, September 12, at 8:30 a.m. in the East Campus (LS) Library.  Jane Sowles will meet with parents to explain the procedures of the program.  Those interested in getting involved in the 1st - 4th Grade SEEDS Program should plan to attend a training meeting on Wednesday, September 17, at 8:30 a.m. in the East Campus (LS) Library.  Jen Malone and Molly Spurgeon will meet with parents to talk about the value of and procedures for volunteering in this program.

Chicago Choir Trip Meeting Scheduled

Parents of 9th - 12th Grade Choir students planning to attend the Choirs of America Festival in Chicago from Wednesday, March 18 - Sunday, March 22, are asked to attend an information meeting on Monday, September 15, at 6:00 p.m. in the West Campus (US) Choir Room.

Special CPR Certification Class Offered

Hearts on Fire professionals will present a condensed, 2-hour version of a life-saving course right on campus at a discount for our entire Shannon Forest community.

Ages: Adults & Teens

Cost: $25 (special rate includes certification card)

This Heart Saver CPR short course is designed for those who want to learn CPR as a requirement for work, to boost your skill set for your resume, or for those who simply want to be equipped to save a life!  This opportunity is ideal for teachers, childcare workers, fitness trainers, those working with the elderly, restaurant employees, lifeguards, construction staff, athletes, coaches, parents, and nannies/babysitters.  Registration is required to plan for materials and space.
