LOWER SCHOOL NEWS

Welcome to Our New Lower School Faculty!

The East Campus will welcome several new faces for the 2014-2015 school year!

Early Childhood and Lower School Spanish will be taught by two, part-time teachers this year.

Mrs. Sarah Fulk will be teaching 4th and 5th grade Spanish.  She earned her Bachelor of Art in Spanish from the College of Charleston.  Her teaching experiences include four years teaching Upper School students at Greenville Classical Academy, as well as developing curriculum and teaching for Vanguard Homeschool Academy.  Mrs. Fulk stays busy taking care of her 1st Grade son and two-year-old daughter.

Mrs. Meghan Hammett will be teaching Spanish to our PK3 through 3rd Grade students.  She received her Bachelor of Art in Elementary Education, and has taught both 5th Grade and Middle School students at Mt. Zion Christian School.  When she is not teaching, she stays busy working with the youth ministry and worship team at her church.

Mrs. Christie Smith will be teaching Lower School Art.  She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Georgia State University and included Special Education in her certification area with her studies at Furman University.  Mrs. Smith brings 18 years of teaching experience in both disciplines, but is happy to be returning to Lower School Art.  She enjoys singing at her church where her husband plays guitar.

Mrs. Jen Malone will be working in both the Lower and Upper School Libraries.  Her love of literature led her to earn her degree in English from Cedarville University in Ohio, as well as minors in Creative Writing and Bible.  Mrs. Malone has been involved in drama and musicals and was a member of a traveling drama team.  Additionally, she has served as Children's Ministry Director at Summit Church, where her husband, Jason is pastor.  They have two daughters, Caroline and Cate.

Mrs. Brooke Thompson will be teaching 3rd Grade at Shannon Forest.  She taught this same grade for four years at Brushy Creek Elementary where she earned Teacher of the Year.  Her degree is in Early Childhood Education from USC Upstate.  Her daughter, Peyton, will be in 1st Grade and she has a one-year-old son, Jaxson.   Mrs. Thompson is no stranger to Shannon Forest.  Her husband, Dustin is our Assistant Varsity Baseball coach and has also coached Middle School Basketball for several years.

Miss Katie Horton, a Shannon Forest alumna, served as our FlexTime Coordinator for the 2013-2014 school year.  Her sharing of musical, relational and organizational skills combined for a great experience for our young children.  This year, she will be teaching 2nd Grade.  Miss Horton earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from Clemson University.  When not in school, she has served as a Middle and High school small group leader, worship leader and college Bible study leader.
