Taft's 2015 Winter Alumni Games

Alumni returned to Taft in record numbers for a special edition of our annual winter Alumni Games. Former Rhino squash and volleyball players met on their respective courts for a few rounds of friendly competition, while the largest crowd to date gathered on the ice to compete for the Scott W. Richardson '82 Memorial Cup. This year's hockey game was dedicated to the memory of Corey Griffin '06. Both the Richardson and Griffin families were on hand for the event, which included a dedicatory program in Odden Arena followed by a luncheon in McCullough Field House.  View photos from the day.

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Members of the Taft community celebrated the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. in January with two days of programs, activities, speakers, workshops, and an arts celebration built around a common theme: celebrating diversity and embracing inclusivity. Children from neighboring cities and towns joined the celebration through the school's MLK Young Heroes Program. The two-day event kicked off on Sunday with Taft's WorldFest, featuring food and cultural exhibits, ethnic dance performances, and sports and games from around the world, and continued on Monday with speeches by NBA legend Nathaniel "Tiny" Archibald and Special Olympian and inspirational legend Loretta Claiborne.  Read more, view photos and video.

Campaign for the Second Century

One of the major goals of the Ever Taft Even Stronger Campaign is to add $55 million to our endowment in support of financial aid.

We've made great progress in our efforts to fund financial aid for Taft students. To date, 57 percent of the school's financial assistance is endowed; we hope to increase that percentage dramatically, and ultimately to fully endow this program.

Each year we turn away highly qualified students because we simply do not have enough scholarship dollars. We must increase our financial aid budget, or we will fall behind peer schools and run the risk that the best and brightest students will not be able to come to Taft.

Scholarship funds are one way to invest in Taft's future while honoring the school's past. Taft's Frederick H. Wandelt III '66 Scholarship, for example, was created by Ferdie's family and friends to honor his four decades of leadership at Taft. Established in 2013, the fund has already benefited three Taft students. To date, the Wandelt Scholarship Fund has received more than $2.9 million in gifts and pledges from 184 donors toward its $4 million goal to fund four scholarships.
