Summer in Montana, it doesn't get any better. Endless blue skies that rest your eyes, cool nights that makes you forget the hot days and daylight that never ends till you close your eyes.
June was filled with weddings. corporate work, Fringe Festival planning and an interesting story to share.
First: The Story.
Those familiar with my work, know that the cover of my first book
" Fathers and Sons," was graced with a portrait of
Bill Cosby and his late son, Ennis. When I heard that Mr. Cosby was coming to perform in Missoula this November, I had to get tickets.
Dilemma: Tickets were about $50 each so I was laboring over whether to take our kids, sad but true.
On my way to purchase the tickets I got a phone call from Wellington, Cosby's producer... remember this is a true story:)
Father's day was coming up and Mr Cosby decided to pay tribute to his late son publicly by releasing the documentary:
" Ennis' Gift"
(a film about learning differences) in addition he wanted to use the portrait I had taken of them over 20 years ago.
Now, as a professional, I first started to fret what to charge for usage, a common brain freeze for artists. I decided what I really wanted, in exchange for the usage of my image, was four tickets to the Cosby performance.
I proposed my terms to Wellington and his response; " I will have to clear it with the Cosby's first but I think they will be ok with your terms." ( I am sure he was smiling when he wrote that response.)
About an hour later I received an e-mail from Wellington :
" Mr. and Mrs. Cosby will set aside four tickets for you and your family to attend his Missoula, MT. concert at the Adams Center on November 15, 2013. "
Below is the portrait Mr. Cosby used to make his announcement of the video "Ennis's Gift."The portrait received over 7500 Likes on Facebook, in one day.
I am very excited to announce that I have teamed up with FOTOMOTO to assist on selling the work on my website.
If you are interested in purchasing any of my work for personal use just click on the CART button, on the bottom of the page, and choose from an array of options from gift cards to canvas prints. All at very reasonable prices.
The photograph at the top of this newsletter was taken in the Selway-Bitterroot National forest. It seems to be a bumper crop for
Xerophyllum tenax or more commonly know as Beargrass in this region. What is rare about this flower is that it blooms once every 5 to 7 years, so to see so many in bloom at once is really special. It is for sale by the way...on my
website.
Speaking of art for sale, I will be revamping my fine art section into categories and hope to finish it by September. Just in time for the holiday season. :) Really!

Read all about it and sign up to perform, volunteer or just watch all types of artists do what they do best: create art.
Off to Sun Valley in July for a week long photo shoot so the next next news letter will come just before September.
Enjoy your summer.
