The AIM Center Announces a Call for Public Comment on the draft version of
Please share with those responsible for purchasing digital learning materials! The AIM Center is reaching out to our closest colleagues in the education publishing and content development fields, as well as those who are influential in these fields, for feedback on the draft version of Accessible Digital Learning Materials-Publisher/Developer Best Practices Guidelines, dated May 1, 2013.
Your Feedback - By May 31, 2013 Please send your feedback directly to the AIM Center Project Director, Chuck Hitchcock, at chitchcock at cast.org. Any comments in any form are welcome but our preference would be that reviewers use "track changes" and "comments" within the Microsoft Word document.
Our Goal Ultimately, our hope is that all learners will be able to use the digital learning materials that are recommended by states and/or purchased by school districts and families. This means that those digital learning materials will need to be accessible to students who have print disabilities right from the start. It also means the technologies used to render and interact with the learning materials, such as computers, tablets, and e-book readers, will also have to be fully accessible to students with disabilities.
The guidelines apply to the widest variety of digital learning materials and technologies and include best practices and principles for:
* Web site accessibility
* Document accessibility
* Video accessibility
* Image accessibility
* Audio accessibility Key Questions for Public Comment
Context: If an educator looking to purchase digital learning materials and technologies pointed a publisher/developer to this document and asked how their product aligns with these best practices, would the publisher/developer find this document a useful resource to guide their response? - Is the overall structure helpful?
- Is there key information that is left out, or unhelpful information included?
- Is there a better way to organize and present this information?
- How can we further align these best practices to the work others are currently engaged in?
Thank you in advance for your support and recommendations.
- Chuck
