Springtime - 'Tis the Season for IEP Planning
Multimedia resources for educators and families

Sharing a 3-4 minute video with IEP team members can be a great way to introduce AIM considerations into the IEP planning process. The videos, used in combination with the online AIM Navigator decision-making tool, will help ensure important conversations occur and decisions are made to support each student's achievement.

User's Guide to AMPs
A User's Guide to Federally Funded Accessible Media Producers (AMPs)

Updated March 2013

 

Did you know that there are over 130 accessible media producers registered with the NIMAC (National Instructional Materials Access Center) and authorized to produce alternate formats of print instructional materials? Each offers a distinct set of services.

 

The User's Guide to Federally Funded Accessible Media Producers summarizes the services and eligibility requirements for three of the largest and most widely used national AMPs: American Printing House for the Blind (APH), Bookshare, and Learning Ally.

The Guide is updated annually by the AIM Center and summarized in table format for comparison purposes. Check out the Summary Table to find information on specific student populations served, conversion services available, and formats provided.

Meet the AIM Center Team

We are delighted to welcome Kim to CAST and the AIM Center! As Director of Design, Kim heads up all aspects of user experience design, from design strategy and research to interaction design and branding. She's already fast at work creating new designs for our AIM Center website.

Before joining CAST, Kim managed the design group at WGBH Interactive, and provided art direction and lead design on a variety of award-winning digital projects for major educational initiatives (PBS Learning Media, NOVA Education, Destinos, Invitation to World Literature), national brands for general audiences (such as NOVA, American Experience, Masterpiece and Antiques Roadshow) and kids (Arthur, Curious George, PEEP, Martha Speaks, Design Squad), and limited series (Evolution, Commanding Heights, and Frontline's Age of AIDS companion website).

TA Tips

This issue of The AIM Connector focuses on the USE of AIM. I  am very excited about this and I hope you are, too! Often, we are so focused on the complexities of selecting and acquiring AIM that we for get that the whole purpose of selection and acquisition is for the student to USE the AIM to increase independence, participation and achievement. 

When the content and delivery systems (generally technological) match the needs of students and the environments in which the student will use the materials, we are just at the beginning of USE.  Without training for students, families and educators and the development of teaching and learning strategies, effective use will be difficult or impossible!

We hope that the Tips videos included in this edition of the AIM Connector will give you some ideas about how YOU can invite, support and expect effective use of AIM by students who need them. Please feel free to share the links widely!
