Painting Dedication Raffle

Gail Frigon has postponed the painting dedication raffle for a few more weeks. It is her hope that as attendance increases in the fall, there will be more people purchasing tickets for the option to put a bronze nameplate on the painting in memory of a loved one.
Tickets can be purchased in the Common Room for $10 each. If you have any questions Gail is happy to answer them for you.

Rev. Phillips article, part 4 will continue in next week's newsletter.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

Bright Idea...
Upon completion of the recent painting project, Bob Dorn submitted a final report which contained both good news and bad. The good news is that all areas requiring attention have been made to look like new! The not-so-good news is a cause for concern:

* Exterior doors were not always locked when he arrived each morning. (Ramp door, back door and front door by mail box) Air conditioners were left on in the old common (now waiting area for rental offices) and the chapel on second floor.
* A refrigerator had been left running on third floor pre-school room, which he disconnected...
* He often had to turn off lights in the sanctuary, as well as the ceiling fans. Those ceiling fans were running almost constantly regardless of the building being vacant."
As we enter this new church year, our Diocese is focusing on caring for our creation. Please, when you leave the building, double check the lights and the fans and the air conditioners to be sure they are turned off, and all the doors securely locked. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Mark your calendars for a special Creation Care Service to be held at Grace on Sunday, October 4rh. We use no electricity used on that day, so bring your coffee! Dr. Lambe will once again help us think about ways we can work to reduce our carbon footprint..

Do you like to sing? Are you available to attend choir practices on Thursday evenings, from 7:30 - 9:00pm? If the answer is yes, then we invite you to Join us at our annual choir potluck supper, which this year is being held on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 6:30, and then to stay for our first rehearsal of the year. Director of Music Dr. Bob Lambe is always looking for additional singers, male or female, and while many of our singers are musically trained, many of us just enjoy lifting our voices in song.

Sharing Father Phillip's thoughts on Commissioning...
On the first Sunday of Advent, we will have a special service of commissioning. We will be honoring all who serve the such, including acolytes, Sunday School teachers, Altar Guild, Vestry, Liturgical Planning Committee, choir, ushers, and more. Recently we asked Phillip to explain his thoughts on commissioning.

1. What is this service for? A commissioning service honors all who volunteer their time in ministries, both short-term and long-term, based on individual interest and the needs of the church.
2. Who are the candidates? Members of those committees who are freely organized by individuals who come together for service to the church. A priest approves their structure and their mission.
3. Is the commissioning service a special service? Yes. A commissioning service is one that has its own full liturgy, including lessons, music, prayers, purpose, focused sermon, and oaths; it is completely distinct from any other service. It is vital to the church. "
There are many places in Scripture that refer to commissioning, many places where Jesus commissions others, and it is in that tradition that we will honor all those who give of their time and talent to the church.

SPECIAL REMINDER...
Rev. Phillip will be away from September 17 through October 25 on his mission trip to Africa. During this time, Rev. Tara Soughers will be our supply priest for Sunday morning services. Saturday services will be under the leadership of Rev. Skip Almon, Paul Deffely, and Pat Aiello.

On Sunday morning, Sheila Deffely will be displaying a special map of Tanzania which she has been working on. The map will then be on display so we can follow Phillip's travels.
We wish Phillip God's blessing in all that he wants to achieve.

If you'd like flowers placed on the altar in memory of, in thanksgiving for, or in honor of a family member or friend, please notify Cyndee Williams or the parish office. A donation of $50 is what it cost us to purchase flowers from Nolan's but we can also work with a donation you are comfortable with.
