Part 2 of Rev. Phillip's article...

Historical Beginning

January 2014 marked the first joint mission trip to Tanzania, between the Friends of Tanzania (FOT), led by Dr. Colin Johnston, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Natick, MA, led by me, Rev. Phillip Kutta.  We had two goals, the first was to become familiar with the work done by our Diocese through FOT in the Anglican Church of Tanzania (ACT) Diocese of Tanga, and our second goal was to build a relationship between the Diocese of Mpwapwa, and look at the works and life of my former parish, St. Paul's of Natick, and our Diocese of MA. The Rev. Jon Strand and I represented the parish of St. Paul's and the Diocese of Massachusetts.

Fr. Strand & Rev. Kutta
Our first stop was in the diocese of Tanga, Tanzania where we were joined by another group to see the work begun by our Diocese.  From there, the Rev. John Strand and I took a 10 hour road trip to Mpwapwa, this was John's first time in Africa and it just happened to be in Tanzania!  Tanzania's future is bright because of political stability, free market system, and active sustainable economic projects which the government of Tanzania is sponsoring for its citizens.

In Mpwapwa, we met with diocesan leadership who told usabout the work of their diocese including its vision and its challenges.  The diocese of Mpwapwa is growing fast and its vision is to introduce various opportunities to better the life in that region by becoming a vital partner in social and economic developments.

Their vision aligns with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's), to build schools, hospitals, enhance agriculture activities, and to open up new ventures for social-economic vitality in the region. Various projects are currently operational such as St. Luke's hospital, Queen Esther Girls' High School, Mother's Union Economic projects, St. Andrea's Nursery School, and Malola Irrigation Scheme.  All of the projects aim to improve the standards of living for the people of the Anglican Christians of Mpwapwa Diocese.

Grace Church Audit Update
Oops, we forgot some names...

Once again a big thank you to all that helped with the audit, especially Deb Bordne and Bev Horne whose names we omitted last week!
Striving for Perfection

When I taught writing to my 3rd and 4th grade students for all those many years, I always encouraged my students to "publish" the most polished copy they could. They understood that while perfection in writing is a worthy goal, it is an unrealistic one, and that the ideas were what really mattered. Even with today's technology, (even with Spell Check), errors slip through.
And so it is with the e-news. Sherry and I try to edit all the articles that appear in our e-news, but sometimes mistakes appear. In the recent story about the rectory, this sentence appeared: "By the fall of 1858, Rev. Edgar D. Romig moved into the new rectory ..." Well, that was only off by 100 years! I hope that everyone reading this article realized that the date should have been `1958.
Remember, it's the ideas that are important!
And a few names were left off the thank you's to those who helped with the audit. So, thank you also to Skip and Jackie Almon, Debbie Bordne and Bev Horne for responding to the call for help.

WRITING CHECKS
When writing out checks for various donations to Grace Church, it is very important to remember to write on the memo line the purpose of the donation. Our policy continues to be that when the counters count the "plate" collection on Sunday mornings, they carefully track this information. If nothing is written on the memo line, then the money goes into the general collection category. To ensure proper distribution, whether it be flower fund, "youth", "down with debt", or other specific purpose, please let us know.

SPECIAL BLUE ENVELOPES
For the next two Sundays, special blue envelopes will be placed at the end of the pews. If you wish to contribute to the fund to help Phillip, please place your donation in the blue envelopes. Checks can be made out directly to Rev. Phillip Kutta. Thank you!

ALTAR FLOWERS

If you'd like flowers placed on the altar in memory of, in thanksgiving for, or in honor of a family member or friend, please notify Cyndee Williams or the parish office. A donation of $50 is what it cost us to purchase flowers from Nolan's but we can also work with a donation you are comfortable with.
