JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY | Pope Francis

"There are no situations we cannot get out of, we are not condemned to sink into quicksand, in which the more we move the deeper we sink. Jesus is there, his hand extended, ready to reach out to us and pull us out of the mud, out of sin, out of the abyss of evil into which we have fallen. Jesus waits for us, he goes ahead of us, he extends his hand to us, he is patient with us. God is faithful. Mercy will always be greater than any sin, no one can put a limit on the love of the all-forgiving God. Just by looking at him, just by raising our eyes from our selves and our wounds, we leave an opening for the action of his grace. Jesus performs miracles with our sins, with what we are, with our nothingness, with our wretchedness."

- Pope Francis

GALVESTON, TEXAS - The Provincial Ministers and Custodes of the English Speaking Conference held their annual Spring meeting at St. Patrick Church, part of Holy Family Parish, a ministry of St. John the Baptist Province from April 4-8, 2016.

Conference members welcomed several new Provincial Ministers to the meeting. Among the newly elected were Provincial Minister David Gaa, OFM (St. Barbara Province, USA), Provincial Minister Algirdas Malakauskas, OFM (St. Casimir Province, Lithuania), and Provincial Minister Robert Mokry, OFM (Christ the King Province, Western Canada).

The Spring meeting also marked the final meeting of Provincial Ministers Primo Piscitello, OFM (Immaculate Conception Province, USA), and Paul Smith, OFM (Holy Spirit Province, Australia), both of whom are completing terms of office.

During the meeting, the Provincial Ministers and Custodes of the United States, Canada, and Europe each met separately in sub-conference to discuss matters relevant to their regions.

The Canadian members discussed the process of reconfiguration currently underway there. The members of the European Sub-Conference also met to discuss their plan to establish an Interprovincial Novitiate for Northern Europe. The new novitiate will be located in Killarney, Ireland, and anticipates welcoming its first class of novices in 2017. Participating in this new endeavor will be novices from Ireland, Great Britain, Germany and Netherlands.

The U.S. Sub-Conference met to discuss the on-going conversation about reconfiguration of the seven U.S. Provinces, the approval of a National Common Admissions Policy, and the approval of Friar Michael Blastic, OFM (Holy Name Province) as the new member to the Interprovincial Novitiate Team. They also discussed the selection of a new Novice Master. However, the ministers have sought the input of the novitiate team before making this decision.

Called to be vocation animators
NEW YORK - We are reminded that it is the call of each friar to be a vocation animator wherever he is. In that spirit, the Vocation Office sends the following reminders:

Vocation Preaching around the Province

A member of the Vocation Team would also like to come to your parish or place of ministry to preach about vocations. Please email vocations@icprovince.org to schedule their visit.

We are all Animators of Vocations

Finally, the Vocation Team recognizes that we are all called to be vocation animators. Please share with us the name and contact information of any young man in your parish or ministry or that you know who you think may have a vocation to our way of life. Again, please let us know at vocations@icprovince.org.
