The Results are in on the Alumni Engagement Survey
The alumni survey was emailed in May to all graduates for whom we have an email address, and the responses are in. The purpose of the survey was to ask alumni their opinions about events, communications and general engagement with SJND.
Some of the responses included: "It's nice that not all the new events are fundraisers," "Love the Decade Nights!" "Let's get more alums involved, including me," "Whatever you do, I want my family to come" and "Thank you for reaching out to us!"
Here's a brief summary: 70 percent of alumni feel connected to the school, while 55 percent feel connected to their classmates. Nearly 90 percent feel SJND events represent alumni interests, and nearly half of the responders would be interested in an alumni barbeque or day at the A's. Alumni rank the best ways of staying connected with the school as: Update magazine, e-newsletters and reunions.
Alumni were given the opportunity to leave their name if they want to speak further about any aspect pertaining to alumni relations. Each person desiring further communications will be contacted over the summer. For more information, contact Suzanne Martin, alumni relations director.

Bob was awarded the honor for a story he presented about a New Orleans family who has been trying to get back in to the home they bought just before Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.

Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School has turned to a familiar face to coordinate its admissions efforts. Gabriela Lippi '08 is the new admissions coordinator at SJND, responsible for working with Director of Admissions Julianne Guevara. Together, they will assist prospective students and families during the admissions process.
"SJND is a school and a community that I love, and I am happy to be back," she said. "I am thrilled to be able to share our SJND community with prospective families."
Gabi graduated in June from UC Davis, where she received a degree in English. During her summers in college, she worked in the SJND Advancement Department as a summer intern and learned about outreach efforts at the school.
As a student, she was editor-in-chief of the Prisms literary magazine at SJND and also was a member of the women's basketball team. She was a member of the California Scholarship Federation and the National Honor Society.
Gabi's mother Joanne (Ratto) Lippi graduated in 1980 and her father, Don Lippi, is the championship varsity men's basketball coach. Her brother, Dominic, graduated from SJND in 2011.

Alum Studies the Greek Classics and earns a D.C. Internship
Victor Republicano III '09 is spending the summer in Greece, studying the classics and ancient Greek as he tours the ruins of the Acropolis in Athens and visits Delphi and Crete.

A Classics major at Santa Clara University, he was selected for a scholarship to study at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. The program focuses on important historical sites in Greece, interpretation of literature and historical writings and how ancient sources may be used to interpret archaeological discoveries.
"Aside from reading Sophocles' Oedipus Rex in Ms. Micheli's AP English class, I had no previous experience with the Classics," said the former accounting major. "I have since fallen in love with what I am learning -- the history, literature, language and culture of the Ancient Greeks and Romans-- and am now a member of both the Classics and Jesuit Honors Societies."
When he returns from Greece, Victor will head to Washington, D.C., where he has an internship, sponsored by Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, who also attended Santa Clara. Victor will work full-time during the 10-week internship in the office of a member of the California congressional delegation on Capitol Hill.
"The experience and insight I will gain through this internship will help me prepare for a future career in law," he said. "Also, because it is an election year, I will be there during such an exciting and important period."
Following his undergraduate education, Victor plans to get his masters' degree in the classics and join the U.S. Army before attending law school.
