Brnad new pottery bowls Kanika Marshall's Clay, Metal & Glass Sculptures

The Holidays are Coming!

Greetings!

I just heard Christmas music on a TV commercial yesterday. Must be getting close to holiday time ... and that means holiday shopping for those we love. There are so many lovely opportunities to purchase fantastic gifts and collectibles from local artisans who make one-of-a-kind works of art. I'll tell you about a couple in this newsletter. I've also included my latest blog containing interesting info about my new "True True" mask series and a video of something wacky I did this week.

Thank you for reading and please enjoy your blessings.

"True True" Mask Series

True True Mask In September 2012, my boyfriend and I came back from a 12-day dream cruise to Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. My artist friends kept asking how viewing millennia-old sculptures, architecture, and artifacts would impact my art. I was clueless. The trip was so magnificent, so rewarding, that I really couldn't wrap my brain around the fabulous places we visited and unbelievable things we had seen. I took several weeks to process the trip and massage the 1,000+ photos I took. And besides, my art comes from an Afrocentric place that has nothing to do with Europe. Or does it?

My latest BLOG describes my foray into truth (the "True True") - realism in figurative sculpture. This is a sculpture of my two-year old grandson.

Artists Sometimes Do the Craziest Things!

Painting Foliage for a View I recently constructed a glass block wall in front of my kitchen window. This would bring constant light into the small space for the live plants that I bought last month.  Unfortunately, because I have a grey tool shed and dark brown fence, overflowing with dark green vines, on the other side of the window, the light that enters the room is dark and grey.  Hmmm, maybe that's why I never opened the mini-blinds that covered the original window. Anyway, I hate the color grey! So I had to do something drastic. My granddaughter loves the story "Alice in Wonderland" so I took a clue from the Queen of Hearts in that story. I wantonly painted my green vines white, yellow and red, and then sprayed my ugly grey tool shed with bright yellow and hot orange paint!  The new bold painted colors morph and refract in the glass block creating fun abstract patterns in the glass.  LOVE IT! And so do my plants.  Why not do something crazy in your home too?

THANK YOU!
