McLean Participating in Quality Care Collaborative
McLean has volunteered to be part of the Connecticut Nursing Home Quality Care Collaborative. We will participate in a series of four conferences sponsored by Qualidigm, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Connecticut. The goal is to work collaboratively with other nursing home providers to develop ways to improve our practice. Visit the website www.qualidigm.org to learn more.
McLean professionals recently attended a conference sponsored by the Connecticut Coalition for Culture Change where we discussed the initiatives of nursing homes in reducing the number of alarms used. Visit www.ctculturechange.org for details of the great ideas for improving quality of life for residents. We are always searching for ways to improve how we do things at McLean and would love your input.
Resident Rights & Responsibilities
Every year it is important to review our "Bill of Rights" with everyone at McLean. I have included the rights in this newsletter for your review.

New Assistant Director of Nursing Joins McLean
It is with great pleasure that McLean announces that Bethany Fairbairn, RN, has accepted the position of Assistant Director of Nursing and Day Supervisor. Bethany has worked as the Assistant Director of Nursing for the past year at a local skilled nursing facility, and her clinical experience in long term care will be a significant contribution to our team. She graduated with her nursing degree from Goodwin College and is currently furthering her education at the University of Hartford. Bethany is not a stranger to McLean. In fact, she was previously employed as a dietary aid at the Burkholder Restaurant, where she subsequently met her husband, a fellow co-worker. Prior to working at the Burkholder, she functioned as a volunteer for McLean, helping residents and staff members alike. Bethany is enthusiastic about returning, and looks forward to commencing a new relationship with McLean.

Therapeutic Recreation News
On Wednesday evening, April 24th at 6 pm, the McLean Auxiliary is sponsoring Casino Night. This is a fun evening of card games and roulette that many residents and patients enjoy. We welcome you to join your family member as they bid and play for prizes. With warmer weather on the way, residents have begun spending time outside cleaning the raised beds off of Chapel Crossing. Residents are excited about planting their choices of vegetables and flowers in the many pots. We will also be planting in the raised planters on the terrace off of Skyview Terrace. The residents are anxious to get outside and enjoy the season. We all look forward to saying goodbye to winter! Coming up in the beginning of May will be our Mother's Day social. This will be held on Saturday, May 11th at 2 pm. Invitations will be sent out soon. We look forward to celebrating this very special day with all the "mothers" at McLean. We are fortunate to have the Hartford Symphony's "Green String Quartet" performing in our lounge on May 2nd at 10:45 am. The residents really enjoy the music, and we are fortunate to be bringing them here again with funds provided to us by the McLean Auxiliary. We welcome you to join us at any of the programs offered. It is a wonderful way to spend time with your family member.
