Theaster Gates to keynote One State!

Internationally acclaimed artist and urban planner Theaster Gates will set the stage with his compelling story as we explore, from the inside out, the space where arts and community engage.

Theaster is at the epicenter of arts and community engagement. Through initiatives that re-purpose neglected locations as arts-centered spaces -- like the Dorchester Projects, Rebuild Foundation, and Arts and Public Life initiative at the University of Chicago -- Theaster is putting theory into practice and transforming the economic, social, physical, spiritual, and civic well-being of individuals and communities. He is also challenging artists and institutions to respond to, be shaped by, and connect more fully with their communities. The inaugural Vera List Prize for Art and Politics, the Wall Street Journal's Arts Innovator of the Year, a Creative Time Global Residency Fellowship -- these are just a few of the accolades Theaster received in 2012.

Convened every other year by Arts Alliance Illinois and the Illinois Arts Council Agency, One State Together in the Arts is the only statewide, multidisciplinary conference for arts leaders, advocates, and practitioners in Illinois.

One State isn't your ordinary conference. Rather than lots of plenaries and concurrent sessions, One State has a total of ten presentations -- one keynote and nine 20-minute talks. Our presenters all have inspiring stories to share.

At One State, we are committed to quality and accessibility. Registration fees for this two-day conference start at just $135, and rooms at the official One State hotel start at $102 + tax per night. Scholarships, group discounts, and one-day passes are also available.

Please join us as one of the many arts and culture stakeholders from across the state that will be in attendance, and become part of our growing connected community to help build a strong and creative Illinois. Find more information at: onestateillinois.com
