Hep C Connection is raising funds for its prevention and support programs through its annual silent and live auction.  The auction opened October 1 and will run through October 14, 2014.  Then, all auction items will transfer to the live event on Friday, October 17, 2014.  We have an exciting array of auction items this year including many certificates to restaurants, museums, and mountain get-a-ways.  Here are a few of the items -

The Challenge of Genotype 3

9/2014 / Healio HCV Next   

A recent article discusses the correlation between patients with advanced liver disease progression and HCV infection genotype 3 after controlling for other factors associated with advanced liver disease including age, diabetes, BMI or antiviral therapy.  This study recognizes the importance of continuing research among patients with this this type of infection. It's also an important factor for physicians to recognize when they're deciding to start or delay treatment for patients.

Community Leaders Call For End To Hepatitis C Treatment Access Crisis

A letter and statement was recently sent to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell, urging that she take command of the current restrictions placed on patients when accessing treatment for hepatitis C over the last year by public and private payers.  It's a call for these restrictions to be lifted, allowing everyone living with a hepatitis C infection to have access to the highly effective medication.  The statement was signed by over 700 organizations, individuals, and medical providers.  Hep C Connection signed the statement in support of the changes.

Project Homeless Connect

Hep C Connection will offer free hepatitis C testing and education at the 2014 Project Homeless Connect.  Project Homeless Connect is a one day, free event where individuals and families experiencing homelessness can access services and resources including medical care, Homeless Court, benefit assistance, employment services, haircuts, clothing and other community resources.   

HCV Quest: the World Hepatitis Alliance Patient Survey

World Hepatitis Alliance On behalf of World Hepatitis Alliance, you are invited to take the HCV Quest patient survey.  This survey aims to explore what it is really like to live with and be treated for hepatitis C (HCV).  It's anonymous and the data will be used to improve patient outcomes when managing their hepatitis C.  Take the survey by clicking here.

AASLD/EASL Special Conference on Hepatitis C in New York

The 2014 American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and European Association for the Study of the Liver Special Conference on Hepatitis C was held in September in New York.  This special conference brought together a distinguished faculty from around the world to discuss the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of hepatitis C.  This year, the conference focused on the new age-based cohort screening recommendation and the new all-oral treatment regimens.
