Recycling for many Alameda County businesses and multi-family properties has been required since July 1, 2012. Effective July 1, 2014 in participating areas of Alameda County, basic recycling requirements were expanded to all businesses and organics collection requirements were added to the list of recycling rules.
Spotlight on Marina Garden Nursing
Marina Garden Nursing, a skilled nursing facility in Alameda, has done an excellent job setting up recycling and organics collection to comply with the law. The facility's engaged and enthusiastic manager added indoor collection containers, including a green bin to capture food scraps and food-soiled paper in the kitchen. He also hung posters showing what materials are accepted, conducted staff trainings and recruited onsite recycling champions to make sure the facility stays on track and in compliance. Great job!
