Advanced persistent threat (APT) has been a term used frequently during security threat discussion; however, confusion exists as to what an APT is and how to manage the risk associated with it. Although the study reveals that a large number of respondents feel that APTs are important and have the ability to impact national security and economic stability, the study also demonstrates that the controls being used to defend against APT might not be sufficient to adequately protect enterprise networks.

Dear  ,

We had a very well-attended chapter meeting in February.  Thanks to Khalid Wasti with Deloitte & Touche, LLP, for providing a great training about social media, the risks it poses to our organizations, and potential audit procedures.  Our March chapter meeting will be in the evening of March 28th at SRP's PERA Club.   In an effort to increase chapter attendance, meeting costs for members will be cut in half to $10 (includes 2 CPE and light refreshments).  The topic is data loss prevention and leveraging your email investment to address those risks.

We are nearing the end of our membership renewal drive, so please remember to renew your membership if you have not already done so.  Memberships provides a lot of benefits including online access to
such content as COBIT and audit programs, as well as free online training opportunities. Membership also provides many opportunities for local networking and training.

Lastly, we will have our chapter elections beginning in April.  An email will go out next week with details regarding how the nomination process works.  All positions will be up for election - president, 1st and 2nd vice president, treasurer, secretary, and the five director positions.  Please start thinking about your interests and let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
President, ISACA Phoenix Chapter

If pre-packaged, one size fits all data loss prevention sounds too good to be true, it probably is. DLP and Email & Web Gateway applications that are deployed and then ignored don't optimize your investment and create more work for your internal team. To protect your data, DLP solutions must be tailored to your business policies and processes, and continually monitored and tweaked based on your evolving business environment. Join BEW Global President & CEO to learn how to continually improve your DLP system to reduce risk and improve operational efficiencies. BEW Global has deployed 400+ DLP projects and will share their experience in successful DLP and Email & Web Gateway program design and best practices including application management, policy governance, incident triage, event management and business analytics.

Volunteer Opportunities

We have a new web page on our chapter website that lists volunteer opportunities within our chapter.  Volunteer opportunities can be as little as a one-time, 2 hour commitment, or have repeating responsibilities - so please take a look at the opportunities and use the corresponding email links if you are interested in helping our chapter succeed and creating networking opportunities for yourself.
