iaedp Press Release Major Eating Disorders Associations Work Together to Disseminate Non Conflicting Information to the Public About Eating Disorders
Pekin, IL - In April 2015 a group of Association Executive Directors in the eating disorder field met in Boston. One topic of discussion was the conflicting information that patients and the public see regarding statistics and other general information about eating disorders. The group agreed to work together to create information to be disseminated that would not be contradictory as a service to the public.
The first project is Nine Truths About Eating Disorders produced in collaboration with Cynthia Bulik PhD, FAED, Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders in the Medical School of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, based on her 9 Eating Disorders Myths Busted talk at the National Institute on Mental Health in 2014.
The associations participating in the project were:
iaedp, AED, NEDA, F.E.A.S.T., ANAD, REDC, EDC, MEDA, BEDA, Eating Disorder Parent Support Group, International Eating Disorder Action, Project HEAL, and Trans Folx Fighting Eating Disorders. Each organization committed to asking their members to promote and use this document. See it here!
