Certification News You Can Use
November 4, 2014

Welcome to the November edition of "Certification News You Can Use", a monthly newsletter about certification published on the first Tuesday of each month. Each newsletter will highlight important updates regarding certification and recognize all new certified IAEDP members for each month. As the Certification Director, I appreciate the dedication and passion of all those who are pursuing advanced skills and recognition by applying for iaedp's Certification designations.

HOT OFF THE PRESS:

Need to find an iaedp Approved Supervisor as you pursue the Traditional Certification route? Now you can search for an Approved Supervisor within or outside of your geographical area from the iaedp website. Go to www.iaedp.com, click on Certification, scroll down to Approved Supervisor List link and click. You will see instructions on the bottom of the page for locating an Approved Supervisor. Enter the words "Approved Supervisor" in the search field, followed by the option to enter a specific zip code to designate those within your practice vicinity or leave blank to see the entire list. You are not limited by location since supervision can be done by phone/Skype and email (See "Approved Supervisor Options and Guidelines" document under Certification for more details).

Want to become an iaedp Approved Supervisor? Experienced clinicians in the eating disorder field that meet the application requirements, including 1) a minimum of 5 years of experience and hold the appropriate state licensure, certification, registration or equivalent qualifications for those 5+ years, 2) no fewer than 6,000 hours of work experience in the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, and 3) a current member of iaedp, are eligible to apply. Approved supervisors are needed for all the disciplines: therapy, dietetics, medical and creative arts.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Please make a copy of your entire application for your records prior to mailing or faxing it to the iaedp office. The certification review process can take up to 90 days upon receipt of your application before notice of your approval status is sent to you; however, the Certification Committee strives to complete the full review in less than 90 days if possible.

Become a Fellow of iaedp (F.iaedp)

You deserve to be recognized and validated as an experienced clinician and iaedp is committed to helping our members! The Board of Directors and Awards Committee created the Fellow of iaedp (F.iaedp), a new category of elevated membership status available to highly committed and accomplished professionals.

For consideration for elevated membership status as a Fellow of iaedp, candidates' collective contributions over time will be evaluated. Guidelines identify but are not exclusive to iaedp members of seven continuous years or more who have been in practice for a minimum of 15 years, are preferably Certified Eating Disorder Specialists and have demonstrated accomplishment and participation in the field through activities such as teaching, presentations, training, research, writing and innovative community projects. Each honoree will receive a special certificate of recognition and Fellow Members may include "F. iaedp" with his or her credentials. Award nominations and Fellow of iaedp applications are encouraged from members through forms provided online.  More information here
