iaedp Announces Top Five Finalists for Imagine Me Art Competition Winner To Be Revealed at 2014 iaedp Symposium

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 - 8:43 am

PEKIN, Ill., Feb. 19, 2014 --

/PRNewswire/ --

The International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) announces its five finalists for the 4th Annual "Imagine Me Beyond What You See" Body Image Mannequin Art Competition, sponsored by Veritas Collaborative.  Selected from a record 20 submissions from the United States and Canada, the top five finalists will be showcased and the winner revealed at the 28th annual iaedp Symposium, February 27-March 2, in

The mixed-medium works were judged on clarity of theme, creativity and originality, quality of composition and design and the overall impression and presentation of the artwork. The top five finalists are:

  1. Blossoming Growth of a Beautiful Life by Bella Vita A Beautiful Life Psychology Group/CA
  1. Chronicles the dynamic journey of how an individual can once again be rooted, grow and blossom into one's true self, although they live in a world where they are soiled to achieve an unrealistic standard of beauty.
  1. Frustrate by Rebecca Tishman/MD
This mannequin was created by cutting puzzle pieces out of a large piece of sheet metal then forging, hammering and welding each piece to fit over the mannequin form and creating a new body.
  2. Hope by Center for Sierras Residential Treatment Center/NV
Although the inspiration for this mannequin was freedom from eating disorders, it can easily be seen as one journey with many voices. From bottom to top, Hope represents a journey to recovery.
  3. Lion's Journey by Bella Vita Eating Disorder Treatment Center/CA
Inspired by Joseph Campbell's monomyth, The Hero's Journey, this mannequin uses a lion to represent the mightiest of warriors battling against an eating disorder. Nature wraps around the lion's left leg, representing the importance of being more grounded, aware, and mindful along the journey.

  4. When I Remain Rooted I Can Fly Free (Fiona) by Art therapy group of Dr. Laura Riss, PsyD of Kaiser Permanente/GA
This sculpture symbolizes the need to respect one's roots as the armature of their growth, recognizing personal gifts and emotions as the basis of their true selves, grounding their struggle towards health.

2014 Judges included La Ventana Clinical Director Carol Dietrich, RN, LMFT, RDT; Board Certified Art Psychotherapist and Professional Member of American Art Therapy Association Michelle Dean, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, CG; and Artist, Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Publisher of Gurze Books, Leigh Cohn, M.A.T.

Certification Update
From the Desk of
Tammy Beasley, RD, CSSD, CEDRD,
iaedp Certification Director

Since 1985, iaedp has recognized the need for qualified treatment providers in the field of eating disorders by offering an advanced Certification Program. It is iaedp's mission to promote excellence in competency assessment for professionals in the eating disorders field through offering a rigorous set of criteria for the evaluation of education, training, knowledge and experience. iaedp's goal is to provide professional certification that is obtainable and affordable without compromising the high level of standards necessary.

The Certification Committee is charged with maintaining the strength, integrity and reputation of the iaedp Certification. Therefore, the following new requirements and updates have been implemented to not only maintain iaedp's high standards but also clarify the instructions for all applicants and unify the certification process across all disciplines.

The primary revisions include the following:

  1. All Traditional certification applicants must be licensed (therapists, nurses, physicians) or registered (dietitians) as a healthcare professional by his/her state's licensing/certification board for a minimum of 2 (two) years prior to obtaining the iaedp Certification.
  2. No less than 75% (up to 100%) of your total supervised patient care hours must be provided by an eating disorder-experienced clinician within your same discipline who meets the iaedp Approved Supervisor requirements. Up to 25% may be supervised by an ED-experienced clinician outside of your own discipline who meets the iaedp Approved Supervisor requirements.
  3. No less than 75% of your total patient care hours must be accrued after licensure or registration. Up to 25% can be accrued during your internship/clinical supervised rotations prior to obtaining your license.
  4. Based on the recommendation of the iaedp Board and the suggestion of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics upon approval of the Phase 1 Collaboration Agreement with the Academy, the educational requirements for the CEDRD are now as follows:

MS in nutrition or health science related field from an accredited university, and 2000 supervised patient care hours of experience directly in the field of eating disorders (# of patient care hours remains the

same, of which 25% can be obtained during clinical rotations prior to registration)

OR

BS in nutrition and/or dietetics from an accredited university with the completion of the coordinated undergraduate program or a fifth year dietetic internship, and 4000 supervised patient care hours of experience directly in the field of eating disorders (# of patient care hours increased, of which 25% can be obtained during internship or clinical rotations prior to registration)

These revised forms, dated January 2014, also include more detailed, step-by-step instructions for completing your application and are mandatory for the Certification Committee review process. Please make sure you are using the most up-to-date forms prior to submitting your application(s).

If you have made plans to attend the 2014 iaedp Symposium, I am presenting on certification on Sunday, March 2, at 10:45-12:15, "Certification: Everything You Need to Know".   I will discuss all of the new requirements and every step of certification in detail.

Thank you for your commitment to the high standards upon which iaedp and the certification process are founded. If you have any specific questions, please contact Tammy Beasley, Director of Certification,  tammy@iaedp.com or Judy Marty, Certification Business Development Director, at judy@iaedp.com.
