Learn a treatment approach resulting in rapid remission of anorexia. Exercises introduce participants to ways of accessing information about a client's psychobiological process. Because of anorexia's genetic substrate, the field of epigenetics, which investigates what influences gene expression, is described with clinical implications for behavioral epigenetics treatment of eating disorders.

Kelly G. Wilson, PhD is a Professor of Psychology and award winning lecturer at the University at Mississippi. He is former President of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, former Representative-at-Large of the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology, and is one of the co-developers of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. He directs the University of Mississippi Center for Contextual Psychology.
Dr. Wilson will present a keynote on Friday, Feb 28 at 9 am followed by an afternoon workshop from 2:50 pm to 4:50 pm also on Friday, Feb 28, 2014.

Joan Borysenko, Ph.D. is Founding Partner and Director of Mind-Body Health Sciences, LLC in Boulder, CO. Her doctorate is in cellular biology from the Harvard Medical School where she also completed three post-doctoral fellowships in experimental pathology, behavioral medicine and psychoneuroimmunology. She is a licensed clinical psychologist, a spiritual director, and a trainer of spiritual directors. Dr. Borysenko is a former faculty member both at the Tufts University School of Medicine and at the Harvard Medical School. A renowned pioneer in the field of stress and health, she is the author of numerous peer reviewed articles and 15 books.

Carolyn Costin, MEd, MFT, CEDS, has been a specialist in the treatment of eating disorders for over three decades. As a previous board member of NEDA, a current board member of iaedp™ and a fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders, Carolyn is intimately involved in the field. Her extensive experience and her own personal recovery enhance her understanding and contribute to her engaging and passionate approach. She frequently appears as a keynote speaker and workshop presenter at national and international conferences. Ms. Costin is the founder and executive director of Monte Nido & Affiliates which includes residential, transitional and day treatment programs in Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, Eugene, OR, and Portland, OR. Carolyn's books, The Eating Disorder Source Book, 100 Questions and Answers About Eating Disorders, 8 Keys to Recovery and Your Dieting Daughter, (updated edition 2013) have helped those suffering and their families, treatment professions as well as the public, understand, prevent and treat eating disorders. The Very Young Child with Anorexia Nervosa: How are They Different?
Small children aged 7 to 12 get anorexia nervosa, too. They can present with the adult form of the disease (e.g. body image concerns and distortions) or just with food refusal and behaviors that sabotage all attempts to re-feed them. The new DSM-5 recognizes these age-related differences, do you? Presenter: Julie O'Toole MD, MPH, is founder and Executive Director at Kartini Clinic, in Portland, Oregon. She is member of AED, IAEDP, EDRS, and AAP. She is the author of "Give Food a Chance" and writes a weekly blog. Along with the rest of the staff at Kartini Clinic, Dr. O'Toole specializes in pediatric eating disorders and thus and diagnosed and treated over 2000 children and adolescents since 1998 to present. A Mulitgenerational Approach to Treating Mothers and Daughters with Eating DisordersAn exploration of how family systems impact mothers and daughters and eating disorders and how to reduce eating disorder behavior in daughters and help mothers work through unfinished business from the past which gets in the way of being an empowering, positive guide for their daughter. Presenter: Esther Kane, MSW, RSW, Registered Clinical Counsellor, is a Canadian psychotherapist specializing in Eating Disorders. She is also author of "It's Not About the Food: A Woman's Guide to Making Peace with Food and Our Bodies" Malnutrition and Suicide: Understanding Suicide Risk in Adolescent and Adults with Eating DisordersThis presentation will provide an overview of the physiological factors that contribute to the increased risk of suicide in patients with eating disorders. Topics discussed will include multiple biological risk factors, including antidepressant medications and nutritional deficiencies in essential nutrients including essential fatty acids, lithium, and vitamin B12. Presenter: James Greenblatt, M.D., a dually certified adult and child psychiatrist, is the Medical Director of Eating Disorder Services at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, MA. His books, Answers to Anorexia and The Breakthrough Depression Solution, draw on his many years of experience and expertise in integrative medicine. He is also the Founder and Medical Director of a private integrative psychiatric practice, Comprehensive Psychiatric Resources, Inc. and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts Medical School. The Impact of Father - Daughter Relationship on Eating RecoveryWorking as a team in a developing country, we note an increasing trend of fathers positively influencing patients' recovery. This workshop highlights the relevance and practicality of our creative techniques using a case based approach, focusing especially on the father's role in management and how it can transform patient outcome. Presenters: Caryl James is a Clinical Psychologist and Eating Disorder Specialist employed to the University of the West Indies, Mona as a full-time Lecturer. She is an advocate for raising eating disorder awareness in the Caribbean and works diligently with eating disorder sufferers and family members. Caryl is the pioneer behind the first International Eating Disorder conference 'Dying to be Beautiful? Body Image, Eating Behaviours and Health in the Caribbean'. In the international community she actively informs about the Caribbean culture and its impact on the presentation and treatment of eating disorders. Abigail Harrison is a consultant pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist and lecturer at the University of the West Indies. She is the founder and director of the Teen and Young Families clinics at the UHWI. Her research interests include adolescent health screening and disordered eating behaviours in adolescents. She is a member of the Pediatric Association of Jamaica (PAJ) and several organizations that take special interest in the physical and mental health of adolescents. As the first Adolescent Medicine trained physician in Jamaica, she advocates for continued improvement of adolescent health care in Jamaica and the Caribbean, through collaborative efforts. The Role of Family Therapy and Education in the Treatment of Eating Disorders" The Role of Family Therapy and Education in the Treatment of Eating Disorders" will highlight the novel treatments and educational formats for families that have produced some of the most interesting advances over the last decade in the field of eating disorders. Presenters: Craig Johnson has been a leader in the field of eating disorders for more than 30 years and is the Chief Clinical Officer at Eating Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado. He is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma Medical School. He has formerly held faculty appointments at Yale, University of Chicago and Northwestern University Medical Schools. He was the Founding Editor of the International Journal of Eating Disorders and a founding member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the Eating Disorders Research Society. He is also Past President of the National Eating Disorders Association. Cindy Pikus PhD has treated children, adolescents and adults with eating disorders for more than 17 years. Dr. Pikus received her Bachelor of Arts degree and doctorate in Clinical Psychology from UCLA. She currently serves as Clinical Director of Adult Inpatient and Residential Services and Associate Chief Clinical Officer at Eating Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado. She brings to this position her extensive experience and expertise in working with eating disorder patients in multiple treatment modalities and at multiple levels of care.

You deserve to be recognized and validated as an experienced clinician and iaedp is committed to helping our members! The Board of Directors and Awards Committee created the Fellow of iaedp (F.iaedp), a new category of elevated membership status available to highly committed and accomplished professionals.
For consideration for elevated membership status as a Fellow of iaedp, candidates' collective contributions over time will be evaluated. Guidelines identify but are not exclusive to iaedp members of seven continuous years or more who have been in practice for a minimum of 15 years, are preferably Certified Eating Disorder Specialists and have demonstrated accomplishment and participation in the field through activities such as teaching, presentations, training, research, writing and innovative community projects. Each honoree will receive a special certificate of recognition and Fellow Members may include "F. iaedp" with his or her credentials. Award nominations and Fellow of iaedp applications are encouraged from members through forms provided online. More information here

The final selections have been made and all abstract submitters have been notified. We are currently finalizing the schedule and will be publishing it in the next few days.
We thank everyone who submitted an abstract. The selection process was very difficult because of the excellence in the abstracts. If your presentation was not accepted for this year, you will have an opportunity to present a webinar for membership during the next year.
Our sincere thanks to the Review Committee for taking time from their busy schedules to put together an exceptional slate of speakers and topics for Symposium 2014! There were many incredible abstracts submitted and it is not easy to select. It is shaping up to be a very exciting conference! To address the case consultation needs of our international membership, the iaedp Communications Committee introduces an ongoing twice-monthly consultation group in an interactive webinar format. � All iaedp members are invited to participate. � Seasoned clinicians address complex cases, mentor early career therapists, and learn cutting edge techniques. � Licensed clinicians may request feedback on cases, listen, and provide feedback. � Unlicensed trainees may request feedback on cases and listen. This is to provide a learning opportunity for those in training while ensuring that feedback is only from licensed professionals. � From time to time, the consultation group will have a guest host who will field case questions before responses from other iaedp members.
