iaedp Certification Updates
iaedp Certification:
What You Need to Know
by Tammy Beasley, RD, CSSD, CEDRD, iaedp Certification Director
Certification of clinicians who specialize in the field of eating disorders is one of the hallmarks of iaedp.
- Have you considered becoming certified, but wonder how it can benefit you and your practice?
- Confused about which certification route best fits your needs and experience?
- Thought about it in the past but it seemed too daunting, or confusing, and you set it on the back burner?
- Now is the time to give a new, or second, look at certification.
The website's Certification and Quick Links pages have been updated in format for easier navigation and all of the forms have been updated to reflect current standards and guidelines for both the Traditional and Equivalency route for certification.
Please note: As of August 30, 2013, the Certification Committee will no longer review and approve applications submitted on the old application forms. This applies to both Traditional and Equivalency routes. If you are currently in process, check for a "Revision Date 052013TB"or later printed on the bottom of the form. After August 30, 2013, no exceptions will be made. This deadline is necessary in order to uphold the high standards upon which iaedp Certifications are founded.
- Take time today and review the "Benefits of Certification" form, which offers an overview of the professional and personal benefits you will receive from pursuing advanced certification.
- Check out "Certification Simplified" to better understand the process, and which certification route meets your needs.
- Read the "Top Five Questions about Certification" for quick answers to the most frequently asked questions.
- Review the checklists for the certification offered for your discipline: CEDS (therapist or physician), CEDRD (registered dietitian) or CEDRN (registered nurse). And if you have been practicing as a licensed clinician in any of these disciplines for five or more years and have significantly contributed to the field of eating disorders, you may qualify for the Equivalency route, so check out the Equivalency Checklist.
For any additional questions about certification, please contact the Director of Certification, Tammy Beasley, RDN, CEDRD, CSSD, at tammy@iaedp.com.

NEDA Survey Results:
Professional Certification is Important to Patients and Their Families
In October and November, 2012 the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) sent an email to everyone in its database inviting participation in an online, confidential, consumer survey about their experiences with eating disorders and their treatment. More than 2,000 individuals voluntarily participated. NEDA received responses from those who suffer personally from eating disorders, those with family members who have been diagnosed with eating disorders and family members who have lost a loved one as a result of an eating disorder.
The majority of all three groups wanted their clinicians to have years of eating disorder experience, the ability to deal with multiple psychological conditions, and certification in eating disorders.

Become a Fellow of iaedp (F.iaedp)
You deserve to be recognized and validated as an experienced clinician and iaedp is committed to helping our members! The Board of Directors and Awards Committee created the Fellow of iaedp (F.iaedp), a new category of elevated membership status available to highly committed and accomplished professionals.
For consideration for elevated membership status as a Fellow of iaedp, candidates' collective contributions over time will be evaluated. Guidelines identify but are not exclusive to iaedp members of seven continuous years or more who have been in practice for a minimum of 15 years, are preferably Certified Eating Disorder Specialists and have demonstrated accomplishment and participation in the field through activities such as teaching, presentations, training, research, writing and innovative community projects. Each honoree will receive a special certificate of recognition and Fellow Members may include "F. iaedp" with his or her credentials. Award nominations and Fellow of iaedp applications are encouraged from members through forms provided online. More information here
