Back to School Safety Starts with You
With school resuming on August 22, the City reminds drivers to:
- Stop for school buses that are loading and unloading;
- Slow down in neighborhoods where children are walking or riding bikes to school;
- Reduce your speed and observe speed limits in school zones;
- Put down your cell phone when driving through school zones;
- Obey crossing guards;
- Remind your children to use designated cross walks and do not block cross walks when dropping students off or picking them up;
- Drive carefully and be patient with other drivers.

Public Hearings Set for Budget, Tax Rate
The City Council has scheduled public hearings on the proposed annual city budget and tax rate. The hearings will take place in the City Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall at 4301 City Point Drive during the following times: Monday, August 22, 20166:15 p.m. - Park & Recreation Facilities Development Corporation Budget; 6:30 p.m. - Crime Control & Prevention District Budget; 7:00 p.m. - Annual City Budget; 7:00 p.m. - Tax Rate. Monday, September 12, 20167:00 p.m. - Tax Rate The meetings are open to the public and will be broadcast live on Citicable NRH. The proposed budget may be viewed online. The City Council reviewed the proposed FY 2016-17 budget during a work session on July 29, 2016. The budget is based on a proposed tax rate of 61 cents per $100 of property value, which is the current rate. The City Council is scheduled to formally adopt a budget and set the tax rate at their meeting on September 26, 2016.

Golf Tournament to Benefit NRH Water Safety 365 Initiative
A golf tournament supporting the NRH Water Safety 365 drowning prevention campaign will be held on September 2 at Iron Horse Golf Course. Fees are $125 per player, or $400 per foursome, and include breakfast, green fees, cart fees, lunch, awards ceremony, and two drink tickets. To register visit www.nrhws365.com.
The NRH Water Safety 365 initiative educates residents on simple steps they can take to prevent drowning. The campaign focuses on putting layers of protection in place and following the ABCs of water safety, whether you are at the pool, the lake or at home, 365 days a year. National Night Out is Oct. 4
Mark your calendar for National Night Out on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. This annual event brings together citizens, law enforcement agencies, local officials and businesses to increase anti-crime awareness and strengthen community partnerships. Residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights and gather with their neighbors to show unity against criminal activity.
