Babe's Chicken, Sweetie Pie's Ribeyes
Coming to North Richland Hills

The North Richland Hills City Council has given approval for Babe's Chicken Dinner House and Sweetie Pie's Ribeyes to be built on Loop 820, just east of Rufe Snow Drive, at the former library and recreation center site. Both restaurants are expected to open in 2017.

Babe's is a family style and family owned restaurant with 9 locations in DFW and is ranked by Zagat as the most popular restaurant in the Metroplex.

Sweetie Pies, which is owned by the same family, is a steakhouse with one location currently in Decatur. It was recently featured in Texas Highways magazine. The restaurant is known not only for its steaks, but for its baked potatoes and pot pies.

The addition of these restaurants furthers the redevelopment efforts along our Loop 820 corridor. It also addresses a primary request from recent citizen surveys for more quality, sit-down restaurants in our community.

Rufe Snow Improvements Begin Soon

Motorists on Rufe Snow Drive will begin to see lane closures soon for a project to widen and improve the roadway between Mid-Cities Boulevard and Ridgetop Road.

This project will expand the existing five-lane roadway
to seven lanes (three travel lanes in each direction plus a
center turn lane) and provide sidewalks along both the
east and west sides of the roadway. Intersection improvements will also be made.

The work is being performed by Kodiak Trenching and Boring and is expected to take about two years to complete. At least two lanes will be open in each direction throughout the duration of the project.

Motorists are urged to slow down and obey warning signs when travelling in the area. Questions may be directed to the Public Works Department at 817-427-6400.

The project is funded in large part through federal grants, with the City paying approximately 20% of construction costs.

Holiday Closings, Safety Reminders

City Hall and other non-emergency city offices will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2016 in observance of the Independence Day Holiday. The Animal Adoption & Rescue Center, Library, Tennis Center and Senior Center will also be closed. Garbage and recycling will not be collected. Monday's collections will be made on Tuesday and Tuesday's collections will shift to Wednesday.

NRH2O Family Water Park, Iron Horse Golf Course and the NRH Centre will be open.

The City of North Richland Hills reminds you that setting off fireworks is illegal in our community. The North Richland Hills Police and Fire Departments will seize fireworks and issue citations to violators. The citation may carry a fine of up to $2,000.

The Fire Department also reminds you to install a smoke alarm on every level of your home. Test the batteries every month and change them at least once a year.

The City of North Richland Hills wishes you a safe and happy holiday!

Tire Collection Event Set for July 16

Old tires left outdoors hold standing water, creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes that can carry West Nile Virus, Zika Virus and Chikungunya Virus. Help protect your family and neighborhood from mosquito born illnesses by properly disposing of unused tires.

The City of North Richland Hills and Firestone Complete Auto Care are holding a free tire collection event on Saturday, July 16 at the Dan Echols Center, 6801 Glenview Drive. Residents can drop off tires (rims / wheels must be removed) in the center's back parking between 9 a.m. and noon.

In exchange for your tires you will receive 2 mosquito dunks, compliments of the City of North Richland Hills. If you have questions, please contact the Neighborhood Services Department at 817-427-6650.

Thank you for your interest in the City of North Richland Hills. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at communications@nrhtx.com or call City Hall at 817-427-6000.

Sincerely,
City of North Richland Hills
