Reminder: Call 811 Before You Dig

Planning a home improvement job? Planting a tree? Installing a fence or deck? Whether you are planning to do it yourself or hire a professional, Atmos Energy reminds everyone to call 811 before each job. Homeowners often assume their projects are too small to need having their utility lines marked, but every digging job requires a call - even small projects like planting trees and shrubs.

Atmos Energy partnered with Texas 811 and the Texas Trees Foundation this week to plant 47 trees at Norich Park and to show the importance of calling 811 before digging. Learn more about safe digging at www.texas811.org

Community Emergency Response Team
to Train New Members this Spring

The City of North Richland Hills strives to be prepared for all potential disasters and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) plays an important role in our preparedness. If a disaster or emergency strikes and overwhelms emergency responders, CERT members will be called upon to help.

Applications are currently being accepted for our next CERT class which will be held March 23 through June 1, on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There will also be a couple of Saturday classes. You can learn more and apply online at www.nrhtx.com/CERT.

Flag Retirement Boxes Placed at Fire Stations

Have an old flag you're not sure what to do with? Residents can now drop off American and Texas flags worn by weather or passage of time in the flag retirement box at any North Richland Hills Fire Station.

The boxes were built as part of an Eagle Scout project by Joey Beltran and other members of Scout Troop 144. The troop will pick the flags up every few months and retire them properly.

The City of North Richland Hills thanks Joey and Troop 144 for providing this service to our community!

Learn About Composting on Feb. 6

Keep NRH Beautiful and the Common Ground Community Garden are partnering to provide residents with a class on backyard composting. The class will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 6 in the Community Room at the NRH Public Library, 9015 Grand Ave.

Composting is a natural way of recycling food scraps and yard waste into a valuable, free soil amendment for your landscape. Learn simple backyard composting techniques. This free class is open to the public and reservations are not necessary. Participants may enter to win a compost bin ($50 value).
