Fight the Bite!
Mosquitoes go to cooler, shady areas during the day to escape the hot summer air. Thinning shrubs and cutting down tall grass and weeds will reduce harborage areas and the number of mosquitoes in your yard. Learn more on the city's website

New Playground Planned for Richfield Park

A new and improved playground is in the works for Richfield Park, 7250 Chapman Road. During their July 14, 2014 meeting, the City Council awarded a bid for the purchase and installation of the playground equipment to WeBuildFun. The play area will be closed later this summer while old equipment is removed and new play features are installed. A new shade structure is also included as part of this project. The work should be completed in September, however the schedule is dependent upon the weather.

Ordinance Regulates Sale, Use of E-Cigarettes

A new city ordinance prohibits the sale and possession of electronic cigarettes to minors and prohibits the use of e-cigarettes anywhere smoking of tobacco is prohibited. The ordinance went into effect upon its adoption at the July 14, 2014 City Council Meeting

This action follows the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's recent statements regarding potential hazards of e-cigarettes in which carcinogens and toxic chemicals could be present and suggesting the same concerns with secondhand smoke may exist with electronic cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes are currently not regulated by the state or federal government.

A special use permit is also now required for new smoking related businesses in North Richland Hills. This includes new cigarette shops, vapor shops, cigar bars and hookah lounges. Questions about smoking-related ordinances may be directed to the Planning & Development Department at 817-427-6300.
