Stage 1 Water Conservation May Resume
While we've had some cooler temperatures recently, overall North Texas has been experiencing above normal temperatures and below normal rainfall for the past several months. This has been contributing to a slow and steady decline in area lake levels.
The Tarrant Regional Water District recently notified the city that the reservoir capacity is at 78% and is declining at a rate of about 1% every two weeks. Without significant rainfall, the reservoirs could be at 75% capacity by mid-January which will trigger Stage 1 of the drought contingency plan. Under Stage 1, outdoor watering is limited to twice per week.
The City of North Richland Hills reminds everyone that lawns and landscaping require less water during the winter months. Water customers are encouraged to adjust your sprinkler systems now to help conserve water. Watch for more information about possible Stage 1 water conservation on the city's website, in your water bills and in future e-newsletters.

Tarrant County to Help Fund Two
NRH Street Improvement Projects
During their Dec. 10 meeting, the North Richland Hills City Council voted to accept $845,000 in funding from Tarrant County for two roadway improvement projects.
A majority of the funding ($550,000) will help fund the re-construction of Smithfield Road between Davis Boulevard and Mid-Cities Boulevard. As part of this project, Smithfield Road will be realigned with Bridge Street, creating a 4-way intersection at the existing traffic signal light at Davis Boulevard and Bridge Street. The current access at Davis and Smithfield just north of the post office will be removed and traffic will be routed through the signalized intersection.
The remaining funds ($295,000) will help in constructing improvements to the intersection of Mid-Cities Boulevard and Davis Boulevard. Additional left and right turn lanes will be added to improve traffic flow at this intersection.
Engineering, design and right-of-way acquisition will take place during 2013 for both projects, with construction to follow in 2014. The funding agreement, which was coordinated by County Commissioner Gary Fickes, is subject to approval by the Tarrant County Commissioners Court.
