Dear Cienega Families, I would like to formally introduce myself as Cienega's new principal. I just finished up a memorable football season and now will be providing leadership to the entire school. I am proud and humbled to take over this position and am excited to serve all of you and our students. Julia Kaiser, our interim principal and now assistant principal over the Freshman Academy, has done a fantastic job in leading us the past few months. She truly is a team player and cares so much for our students. December is the month of finishing strong. Please take the time to go onto Power School and check your child's grades. High school grades are final at the end of each semester, and it is imperative that we push hard to finish strong academically. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teachers if you need information about what you find on Power School. December is also a great time to contribute your yearly tax credit. All 2014 tax credits must be turned in by December 31, 2014 for the 2014 tax year. Tax Credit Contributions are a 100% dollar-for-dollar credit. For those that pay Arizona state taxes, for every dollar that is contributed, 100% will be returned back in their state tax return. Single families can contribute up to $200 per year, and married couples can contribute up to $400 per year. Extra curricular programs at Cienega depend on tax credits to function. Tax credit contributions can be given to any club, sport, fine arts program, activity, or the greatest need. I would like to thank you in advance for contributing your tax credits to any of the extra curricular Cienega programs. Sincerely, Nemer Hassey Principal |

NJROTC HAPPENINGS...
|
Vail NJROTC cadets competed on Saturday, 6 December, at the NJROTC Area 11 Valley of the Sun Field Meet held at Moon Valley HS in Phoenix. NJROTC units from Arizona and Southern California competed. Our cadets did very well against the established schools in Area 11 and received trophies and medals in the following events:
2nd place in Color Guard
3rd place in Academics
3rd place in Curl Ups
3rd place in the 8 x 200 run
4th place in the 16 x 100 run
Our cadets are proud of their achievements considering this is only the second time they have competed in this event.
On Saturday, 22 November, Vail NJROTC cadets assisted the American Legion Post #109 Ladies Auxiliary with their Produce On Wheels - With Out Waste (POWWOW) community service event. POWWOW disperses fresh produce to communities throughout Southern Arizona and the metro Tucson and Phoenix areas. Anyone can donate $10 to shop up to 60 lbs. of fresh nutritional rescued produce, to share with neighbors, friends, family, or someone who's in need. The cadets were honored to lend a helping hand.
NJROTC cadets had the opportunity to visit Davis-Monthan AFB on Friday, 14 Nov. They had a "U.S. Navy" A-10 pilot come speak to them and they saw fire fighting and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) displays. They also visited the flight line where they boarded a C-130 and a HH-60 helicopter for a hands-on experience. The cadets are grateful to the U.S. Air Force for this great educational tour.
