Dear Cienega Families,
Vail Pride Day. This weekend volunteers and teachers will be honored and students will be recognized. We realize the changes and challenges in education cause strife to many students and parents with the demand and pressures to perform on standardized tests.
Teachers have the pressures of maximizing instructional minutes balanced with teaching students critical thinking skills in specific problem based learning lessons.
Vail is humbled to receive the accolades as a top-achieving district. The greatest complement though is when a student stops me in Fry's, Target, or around the community to share their accomplishments in college and careers. Just last night, after a trying week, I spent 30 minutes in Target with a senior who excitedly shared his success and learnings through his SEP shadowing experiences. He is excited about graduation and said that Cienega's Commitment to Graduate focus and the Cienega staff keeps him motivated to be the first high school graduate in his family.
All of our students have the opportunity to pass every course. If your student is struggling, register him or her for intercession. This one-week class can get the student back on track. Every student has a Laurus Math password math can use this website for additional support and practice in for AIMS and ACT as well as review and practice with their current math class.
Free math and SEP tutoring is available after school with transportation provided at 6pm.
The school year will be over in such a short time and the school-parent-student partnership is critical for e success of students. Take some time to come to Vail Pride Day. You will be amazed with the quality work projects and performance of our 10,0000+ students.
Spring sports start soon, clubs will wrap up, animals will be sold at fair, and pomp and circumstance will begin our commencement ceremony. Encourage you son and daughter to remain focused and committed to school. Lets work together to finish strong.
With pride for our great kids,
Tricia Peña, Ed. D Principal |

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
|
Dear Parents,
The Vail School District is well known for strong academic achievement and innovative practices.
While these features are wonderful, they do not stand alone. They are built on the firm foundation communicated by our motto: "Where Education is a Community Effort."
The District's strong connection with you - our community - is illustrated by Vail Pride Day.
This year's Vail Pride Day is Saturday, February 16th.
It is an event unique to Vail. No other school district does an event like it.
Vail Pride Day defines us!
Embrace your school and your community. Help keep them strong. And, equally important, enjoy great food and exciting entertainment with the other 10,000 people who will be there.
Vail Pride Day is the perfect family activity. Grandparents, uncles and aunts - everyone is welcome.
Hope to see you there!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SENIORS!
| |
Cienega Seniors are definitely C2G College! Over 150 college acceptance letters have been sent to the students in the class of 2013. Each time a senior brings in an acceptance letter, they will be entered into a drawing to win an iPad to be given away at Honors Night on May 15th.
General Senior Reminders:
- If your student is taking any courses through correspondence or Dual Enrollment through Pima, it is their responsibility to bring the transcript from that school to the registrar in order to get credit for the class and to be able to participate in graduation ceremonies. This deadline is MAY 1st unless taking a Pima class. That deadline will be two days after the class has been completed.
- If 7 absences are accumulated in any class regardless of the reason, unless it is a school related activity, THE STUDENT WILL NOT PASS THE CLASS AND WILL NOT GRADUATE IF THE CLASS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR GRADUATION! An appeal may be scheduled after May 1st for illness or extenuating circumstances.
- Seniors planning on attending a four year college should have applied to their schools by now. You may lose valuable scholarship opportunities by procrastinating any longer.
- Be sure to check the CHS Website for updated scholarship opportunities. The link can be found by entering the website at http://chs.vail.k12.az.us click on "Counselor" link, from there click on "Scholarships". This page is updated regularly, so check back often.
- Senioritis can sometimes creep up on students. Please be aware of this and monitor your students attendance and grades carefully so that there will be no unhappy surprises in May when it is time to celebrate the graduation of your son or daughter from Cienega.
Please utilize PowerSchool on a regular basis and stay informed of the progress your son or daughter is making in his or her classes: http://ps.vail.k12.az.us/public/home.html
