Madinah and Bab-al-Ilm Summer Camp 2016

This course provides one with the BEST of both worlds! From spiritual to touring the earth as stated in the Holy Qur'an in Chapter 29 Al-Ankabut: Verse 20 - "Say: Travel through the earth and see how Allah originated creation...." It is a perfect blend of workshops, free time, visiting various (scenic) places and socializing. Sr. Tanveer, the Qum Camp chaperone, personally learned and saw so much in this course that She doesn't think she would have ever experienced through the rest of her life.

Girls at the airport were hesitant to let go of their parents before embarking on this journey to the same girls even more hesitant to let go of the friends they had made throughout this course - this is the quality of relationships one can build through this course. One girl who was crying when parting from her friends said to Sr. Tanveer "I didn't even cry when I left my parents and I didn't miss them so much but I am really going to miss these friends" She witnessed girls who "need" their 7 hours of sleep being able to survive on 3-4 hours a night and wake up at 4:00 am to recite Salaatul Layl at the Haramayn.

This course helps people find their purpose in life, reignites the love of Allah and Ahlulbayt in one's heart, teaches one to share selflessly and carefully manage one's timings (sharing one bathroom between 15 people is not a joke!) to giving one's full attention and respect to the person talking to them (because they don't have any cellphones and gadgets to distract them!).

Those who have been fortunate enough to attend and experience this course did not go as a coincidence! They were carefully selected by Lady Ma'soomah (sa) and Imam Ali Ridha (as) to visit them and to give them a chance to better themselves. This course is one that all parents MUST send their children ages 14-24 to. Every year is a different experience and we pray to the Almighty through the intercession of Lady Ma'soomah (sa) and Imam Ali Ridha (as) to give us all the opportunity to experience this every year! Ameen.

Quran Summer Camp!
On morning of August 8, 2016 there was a big hustle and bustle of children and parents in the hallways of the Jaffari Community Centre in Toronto. It was the first day of the awaited annual Summer Quran Camp.

Many returning campers knew what was in store for the week, while the new ones were not so sure. But as soon as they all donned the bright orange T-shirts with a picture of a Quran within a heart, they knew they were going to have a wonderful time learning to memorize the Quran.

The campers, played games, did crafts, and while doing all this, they learned to memorize the Quran. Surah Al-Fajr was the topic for this year. Difficult, as it may sound to an adult, the young ones once again surprised us by memorizing up to 10-15 ayaat in just five days!

"How do you do this?" asked one parent. "The kids enjoyed learning the Surah and kept reciting it all day long". Memorization at the Summer Quran Camp is done by using the method of listening and repeating.

The kids listen to a Qari recite the ayaat, and they repeat them. They recite while playing, while making lemonade, while decorating fruit platters, and while going outdoors for scavenger hunts and soccer games. There is no pressure, and Quran recitation becomes part of their daily routine without them even realizing it. This is what makes learning to memorize the Quran so much fun for 5-12 year olds, and they look forward to the week of Summer Quran Camp every year!

Dental Hygiene Clinic for Syrian Refugee Families
On Sunday, August 7, 2016, NASIMCO, in conjunction with the ISIJ of Toronto, hosted a Dental Hygiene Clinic for Syrian Refugee families at the Jaffari Community Centre (JCC).

The event was a great success with many positive comments received from the MP's that attended. The Syrian Dental screening clinic and workshops was a resounding success, but we couldn't have done it without the commitment of time and energy, dedication and enthusiasm of the Organizing Committee, the support and assistance of the ISIJ or Toronto, the involvement, volunteering of the time and services of the Professional Volunteers and all the volunteers who gifted their time, energy and enthusiastic support.

NASIMCO appreciates your hard work would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt "Thank You!" We couldn't have done it without you all.

Check out some of our favorite pictures from the event here.
