Dr. Muhammad F. Walji honoured
Dr. Muhammad F. Walji, PhD, of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Dentistry, has been named by President Barack Obama as one of 105 recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.


The award is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers and will be awarded to Dr. Muhammad F. Walji in Washington, D.C. this spring.

 Muhammad and his family on this amazing achievement and we pray for his continuous success in the future.

NASIMCO Az-Zahra Camp 2016
NASIMCO proudly presents the Az-Zahra Camp 2016. This is a unique retreat open to all women in North America 18 years and up. The retreat will be held from May 27 to 29, at the Ecology Retreat Centre in Ontario, Canada. The speakers invited are Sr Masuma A. Jaffer from England, and Sr Nicole Correri of the US.


The theme of the camp is, "Journey towards inner peace."  Participants embark on a lifelong journey to find peace and harmony within themselves and their surroundings. Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Ecology Retreat Centre, the weekend promises to be full of self-discovery, quiet reflection, tranquil understanding and joyful acceptance. This is where your inner strength and beauty are unveiled, memories are made and lifetime friendships are formed.

NASIMCO 2016 Summer Camp in French
NASIMCO is pleased to announce the Madinah al-ilm Qum Summer Camp 2016 course in Iran in French. The first of its kind!! A summer camp created for those who prefer to have the camp in French. It will be 3 weeks long and held in the holy cities of Qum and Mashhad, in conjunction with The World Federation, guaranteeing participants an experience of a lifetime... all in French!


The camp will be from July 10th - July 30th for ages 18 to 24 years, and will include an Academic Program with discussions on Quran and hadith, youth issues, classes on major Islamic subjects, and a Cultural Program with sports and excursions to local attractions and important sites for Ziyarat.

Teacher Skills and Tools Program Report
The Huseini Madrasah in Los Angeles held a 2-day workshop on Neuro-Psychology of Learning (NPL) on February 6th and 7th. The NPL Program was attended by teachers of the Huseini School, as well as other schools in the greater Los Angeles area and Orange County. 14 teachers completed the 2-day program with eagerness, the desire to learn and a passion for both, teaching and learning.


A participant commented "The hands-on activities helped me apply and understand the concept to a full capacity. I found myself visualizing my students and my kids"







Participants did interactive exercises, group work, individual reflections while learning how to understand the multiple temperaments and interaction styles prevalent in any classroom or group environment. They walked away with an acute awareness of success as teachers by ensuring that all types of learners have their needs met in the classroom.


The program was facilitated by Taazim Jessa, Hasnain Walji, Alireza Jessa and Shabnam Dewji, the principal of the Huseini Madrasah.



Ahlulbayt TV recognizes NASIMCO Councillor
On Saturday, February 13, 2016, NASIMCO Councillor, Sr. Siddika Jessa, was recognized for her achievements in Leadership Development & Capacity Building at the Ahlulbayt TV Awards For Excellence Ceremony in Vancouver, BC.


Sr. Siddika Jessa joined the NASIMCO team in 2009 as an Executive Councillor and is the lead on Capacity Building for the North American Region. She heads various development programs such as the Leadership Development Program (LDP), the Youth Leadership Retreat and Teacher Development programs for Madaris under the NASIMCO Center of Islamic Learning (CIL) in conjunction with the World Federation.






The awards ceremony organized by Ahlulbayt TV is internationally renowned for honoring and celebrating the achievements of individuals who have contributed towards the growth and success of the global Shi'a community.

JIC participates in NW Food megapack


On Saturday Feb 27th, Ja'afari Islamic Center members took part in the NW FOOD MEGAPACK initiative with a goal of packing 2 million meals to serve to the hungry people around the world. Members not only helped serve those in need, but also built bridges with the non-Muslims that also took part of this initiative.
 
Church visit JIC


On Sunday, Feb 28th, Az-Zahra Madressah Academy students did an amazing job hosting a group of students and parents from "Our Saviors Lutheran Church." The students welcomed the guests, presented on Islam 101, answered questions, and gave a tour of the facilities The guests had a fun learning experience and are looking for more ways they can engage with JIC in the future.



Community Events - Umoja Games 2016, New York


You are invited to the 2016 Umoja Games , the largest Shia Ithna'asheri based soccer tournament, being held in New York (Randall's Island) from July 29 - 31st.


The 2016 Umoja Games marks the fifth anniversary of the Games as they return to the city where it all started. Having reached a record-breaking 500 participants at the 2015 Umoja Games in Toronto, we expect a new record this year, making it the biggest Games in our history!

Community Events - Honouring Sports Heroes, MARC
In September 2015, NASIMCO and the Mulla Asghar Memorial Library and Islamic Resource Centre (MARC) of Toronto, in association with the World Federation of KSIMC, organized a Khoja Sports Exhibition as part of the Khoja Heritage project. The exhibition honoured sports personalities of our community from the time of our forefathers to the present day.
