Muslim Scouting
Each year, nearly 3 million American youth participate in the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, organizations that have been shaping America's youth for more than a century. Like other Americans before them, Muslim families sought a place at the Scouting table, eager to integrate Muslim youth into American society without compromising their religious ideals. And Scouting welcomed Muslims with open arms, seeing in Muslim Scouts a shared respect for Scouting's core values.
And participating Scouts seem to agree. "We went on hikes, jamborees and flag drills," explained Mas'ood Cajee, who grew up as a member of Islamic Scouting Troop 322 in Seattle. "We were young American Muslims, at one with Allah and the Constitution." In addition to earning merit badges for sports, citizenship and crafts, U.S. Scouts can earn the "Bismillah" emblem through basic knowledge of Islam and the "In the Name of God" emblem for advanced Islamic knowledge and practice.

The JSS (Jaffari Support Services) of ISIJ of Toronto held a very interesting and exciting workshop on Saturday, March 29th, on the topic of "Making the most of your marriage".
The seminar room was filled with a variety of enthusiastic couples ranging from newly engaged to couples married almost 20 years.
It was an interactive workshop filled with discussions, questions and practice exercises throughout the day. Participants were also given an opportunity to role play in order to practice some of the techniques such as SLT (Speaker Listener Technique) and Building Love Maps that were taught in the course.
The speaker, a former lawyer turned social worker/marriage counselor, Marzia Hassan (LLB, MSW, RSW) was very engaging. She has been studying human behavior and relationships for over a decade and has conducted courses all over the world.
Statistics have shown that even healthy relationships may have as many as ten irreconcilable differences. However, half the battle is awareness, as well as managing these differences and not allowing them to overtake the good things in the relationship.
The seminar was a success with many participants agreeing that such workshops are an important resources, and should be held regularly in all communitities.
We pray that the Almighty Allah guides us, and strengthens all our marriages, and also helps those who are looking to get married.
