LUNENBURG -  Debbie Thompson is presenting a morning workshop later this month called  "We are Amazing Energy."

This introductory session is on the energy of which we are all composed. It will explore the seven basic chakras that keep our bodies aligned, and how they create our unique selves.

Note: If the above info is new to you, it will be a good foundation for the afternoon session.

Tht's when Debbie and her co-host, singer/songwriter Patrick Thompson will present "Love and Fear - A Balancing Act."  By looking at our reactions to these emotions, with the help of Patrick's music, we will explore our relationship with these two emotions.

5 reasons not to shoot your own business video

LuckyDuck video - delivering professional videography across Canada & USA

NOVA SCOTIA & BEYOND -  Smartphone and camera makers talk about how fast and easy it is to record amazing HD videos using their devices. You can even shoot a video that will make you a viral sensation on YouTube . . .  Or . . . maybe not.

Although it's tempting to succumb to the allure of shooting and producing business-and-marketing videos yourself, there are plenty of good reasons to bring in a professional for the job. From expertise to equipment to putting your best foot forward online, here are five reasons why you shouldn't shoot your own business videos - unless you're a professional!

  • Your equipment isn't up to the task
  • It's tough to be objective
  • Your valuable time is better spent elsewhere
  • You risk reducing the overall quality of your website - and the reputation of your business
  • You're not a professional - if you are - please disregard these top 5 reasons!

Bottom line . . . Just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should!

Congrats to KCC - West Ironbound's safe 'n' sound!

West Ironbound Island

KINGSBURG - A partnership between the NDP government and the Kingsburg Coastal Conservancy (KCC) ensures that West Ironbound Island will be protected for generations to come.

Local MLAs Pam Birdsall and Gary Ramey announced the acquisition of the southern half of West Ironbound on March 28, at a gathering in Riverport, Lunenburg County.

"It has been so rewarding to work with the members of the KCC on this project," said Birdsall. "Making this announcement together is a very proud moment for me as MLA and as a resident of Lunenburg County."

The negotiated price for the parcel of land is $387,500, less than the appraised market value. The Department of Natural Resources will contribute $200,000 and with the help of local support and donations the KCC will contribute the remaining $187,500.

"This announcement is about more than land," added Ramey. "It's about the culmination of working together to preserve part of our province for the future."

In 2010, the northern half of West Ironbound Island was acquired by the KCC. Led by its Board of Directors, the conservancy will manage all of the land through a stewardship agreement with the province.

"This purchase and stewardship agreement will ensure the protection of the land, its species and coastal beauty for all Nova Scotians," said Robert Buckley, KCC Chair. "Our many volunteers look forward to working with the Department of Natural Resources to keep the land vibrant and strong."

West Ironbound Island is located 20 kilometers south of Lunenburg.

Koodonation gives Lucky an "award of excellence!"
Micro volunteering for non-profits

LuckyDuck joins KoodoNation!

EVERYWHERE -  LuckyDuck's been microvolunteering with Koodonation.

I was delighted to receive notification regarding my latest microvolunteer session: "Wordpress has it's limits..." is now closed and you've won the Award of Excellence! Thanks for all your help!"

KoodoNation is a free online hub that connects busy people with non-profits. With microvolunteering, small deeds make a big impact and since it's all done online, you can donate time whenever you want (even at 3am in your PJs!).

Non-profits post challenges to the network. Challenges are small tasks that can be completed entirely online - from simple questions that need answering to a quick brainstorm for ideas. From there, the microvolunteer community takes over and posts answers to help solve each challenge.

Volunteers are free to get involved in any cause they care about, and respond to any challenges that interest them and match their skills. And they can do it any time, on their own time, with no commitments.

It's great Koodonation's found a way to fit helping others into busy schedules! And  that non-profits can get work done for free by connecting with a huge pool of talented volunteers ready to help.

Join the Koodonation!
