School districts can piggyback on money-saving contracts available through two national cooperative purchasing programs under one roof, The Keystone Purchasing Network and PEPPM Technology Bidding and Purchasing Program. Both programs advertise and solicit sealed bids, which are awarded to the most responsive and responsible bidders. The result is higher quality at lower prices. |

Stop Doubting Texas' Graduation Numbers
By Michael Marder
source: http://www.tribtalk.org
Yes, Texas is at the top. Not just in job creation. And not just in oil and gas.
No, we lead nearly every other state in the nation on high school graduation rates. The Texas Education Agency announced it earlier this year. No. 2 overall in the country and No. 1 for many ethnic groups.
The only thing that stands between us and congratulations is one little thing: Many people don't believe it.

It's a FACT: The Texas Graduation Gap Narrows Sharply Since 2007
The Texas high school graduation gap between the white student population and minorities has narrowed by well over half between 2007 and 2013. The graduation rate for African-American students rose 13.4 percentage points, from 70.7% in 2007 to 84.1% in 2013, while the graduation rate for white students rose 4.8 percentage points during the same period, from 88.2% to 93%. The graduation rate for Hispanic students jumped a remarkable16.6 percentage points, from 68.5% in 2007 to 85.1% in 2013.
This and other positive facts are featured on the 2014 poster.

by Libby Nelson on vox.com
Polls about education in the US quickly find a paradox: most people like their neighborhood schools, but they think education as a whole in the US is going downhill. Everyone thinks their neighborhood school is the exception, not the rule. read more... |
