PAID Research Opportunity

Paid Opportunity to Improve Safety in Community

You are invited to a Research Study to prevent violence against South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepali, or Bhutanese) retail workers. If you are selected, you will receive $100 for participating in the focus group. South Asian American Policy & Research Institute (SAAPRI) and Center for Disease Control's National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) are conducting research and seeking focus group participants. We are looking for South Asian employees, managers, or owners who are part of a small business in the retail sector.

Answer these questions to know if you are eligible for this study:
- Are you Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepali, or Bhutanese?
- Do you work as an employee, manager, or owner in a retail business, such as a store or gas station?
- Is the business in the city of Chicago-on the South side, West side, or Devon Avenue area?
- Are you above the age of 18?

If you answered YES to all the questions, you may be eligible to participate in this study. Please call SAAPRI at 978-381-9242 or 773-373-9750 to find out if you qualify to participate in this important research.

The purpose of this research is to prevent workplace violence against Asian retail workers in Chicago, who are at a higher risk of facing violence on the job.

Volunteer - It's Good for Business
Dennis pic
In a recent discussion with a Public Relations professional, I asked about her process for acquiring clients.  She said she currently has all the clients she can handle.  And, she added, for every client she has, she started working as a volunteer.  As the organizations' needs grew and they decided to transition from a volunteer to a paid professional, she was the obvious choice.Another benefit of volunteering is the opportunity to meet people from other businesses who have some involvement with the organization.  These could be patrons, donors or board members who are involved with the organization.  As they interact with you in organization activities, they become aware of your skills and abilities and may consider you for assignments in their businesses.  Frequently, these are busy individuals who would be difficult to get appointments with to pitch your services.Another benefit of volunteering is that it can help you to feel good about yourself.  And, when you feel good about yourself, you are more likely to be successful in your business endeavors.
