Wastemaster is here to Help

The City of Chicago recognized long ago that businesses in the same area pay a wide range of prices for trash hauling services.*  Many times businesses pay too much when compared to a similar business nearby.

Wastemaster is an online resource for independent business owners who want to reduce their waste disposal and recycling costs.  Using a proprietary database application, we offer our subscribers easy access to local service pricing information that otherwise would be time-consuming and cumbersome to assemble. Wastemaster's savings program will create greater competition among the various waste haulers competing for your business in your neighborhood. The result is potential lower disposal rates for you.  Your help is needed!

What do I need to do?
Please send us 2 of your recent trash hauling invoices.  You can do this in one of three ways.
1.    Fax to 773-326-3582
2.    Take a picture using your smart phone and email to
info@wastemaster.com.
3.    Email an electronic copy to
info@wastemaster.com.

What's in it for me?
After we complete the data analysis you will receive a customized report detailing one of two scenarios.
1.    Scenario 1 - Great job!  You have one of the best waste disposal service rates in your zip code and Wastemaster will continue to send you notifications if a better rate is discovered in the future.
2.    Scenario 2 - You are currently paying a higher rate than your neighbor who has a similar pick up frequency and dumpster size.   Wastemaster will help you understand the data analysis and renegotiate a lower rate through a contract extension or a new service agreement with a different hauler when your current contract expires.
Do I pay for this service?
There are no fees for the initial data analysis.  Wastemaster will send you an alert if we believe you can save money.  Once you receive this alert, you will have the option of working with us to help you save money.  If you decide you want to partner with Wastemaster, our fee is based on your total savings.   If we can't save you money, there aren't any fees.

What is your privacy policy?
All personal information is kept strictly confidential.  Your name, address, and contact information is not shared....ever.

Turmeric: The Wonderful Spice that Fights Inflammation and Protects Against Disease
Colleen Taylor Sen
Thursday, May 29, 2014
Tiffin Restaurant
2635 W. Devon

Join author Colleen Sen for an evening that will explore the many health benefits of this "wonder spice". Turmeric has long played an important role in Indian, Chinese, and Indonesian medicine. Turmeric's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties have been known for centuries, accounting for its historic use as a panacea for sprains, congestion, skin ailments, and digestive problems. Over the last few decades, medical researchers have begun to notice a lower rate of certain cancers, as well as Alzheimer's disease, in countries whose inhabitants regularly consume turmeric-rich dishes. Accordingly, nearly
80 clinical trials have been put on or are currently being conducted to study turmeric's effects on health. To date, these studies have found evidence for turmeric's therapeutic
advantages as related to preventing or treating Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, atherosclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, digestive problems, liver
disease, stroke, and infections.
Sen is an experienced food writer with a wealth of experience writing about Eastern food traditions.

A traditional Indian meal filled with turmeric will be served.  (veg and non veg options)  The meal will include a choice of beverage including tea, soft drinks, lassi's, beer and wine.

Patrons will also receive a discount code to purchase Sen's new E-Book: TURMERIC: Great Recipes Featuring the Wonder Spice that Fights Inflammation and Protects Against Disease. The book includes more than  70 recipes from around the globe.

City of Chicago Launches Park App
Pay-by-Cell Option Part of the Agreement Mayor Emanuel Negotiated to Save Taxpayers $1 Billion and Provide Free Sunday Parking in Neighborhoods

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that within the first 36 hours of its launch, nearly 1,000 drivers signed up for ParkChicago, a new app that gives drivers in Chicago the option to pay for metered street parking with a mobile phone. The pay-by-cell parking option is part of the agreement Mayor Emanuel negotiated with the parking meter company to save taxpayers $1 billion and provide free Sunday parking in our neighborhoods.
"Drivers in the City of Chicago are already taking advantage of the convenience the new pay-by-cell plan offers," said Mayor Emanuel. "Without having to use cash, debit, or credit cards, residents and visitors can save valuable time by using this smartphone application and not having to return to the pay box. From free Sunday parking to this new payment option, we have made the parking meter deal more manageable for Chicago's residents."
The ParkChicago website also had 3,500 people download the app within the first 36 hours of its launch. The pilot program recently launched in a limited area in the West Loop.

This new pay-by-cell technology will offer a number of timesaving conveniences:
Drivers will no longer have to make payments at the meter boxes if they choose. However, Meter boxes will remain in place throughout the City, providing motorists with multiple options to pay.

Printed receipts will no longer need to be placed on dashboards.

Drivers will no longer have to return to their car to increase their time allotment. The app will send users text message reminders 10 minutes prior to the expiration of their parking session, and allow them to pay for more time remotely.

The new pay-by-cell option is part of Mayor Emanuel's renegotiated 75-year parking meter contract between the City and Chicago Parking Meters. LLC. The contract also includes free Sunday parking in neighborhoods. The City is expected to save approximately $1 billion over the life of the parking meter concession by the reduction of an annual payment connected with changes to the
City's parking meter system.
iPhone and Android users can download the free ParkChicago mobile app at the App Store or at Google Play. Cell phone users can create an account by visiting www.ParkChicago.com.

Mother's Day Bazaar
Retailing is a Challenge
Dennis pic

You own a small retail business and your customers love you.  You provide a good value and offer personal attention to every customer.  And yet, it is a constant struggle to pay the bills and have a few dollars left for yourself.  You need more customers.  Eventually, if you can keep the doors open, Word of Mouth Advertising will help you grow your business.  But, it can take a long time.  You need to be more proactive about growing your business.  So, how do you start being more proactive?

You begin by developing a promotion budget.  A simple way to do this is to analyze your unused capacity.  Ask yourself, "How many more customers could I accommodate?"  Your next question could be "What is the average amount each customer might spend?"  Multiple the number of additional customers you can handle by the average expenditure of a typical customer and you will have a rough idea of how much additional business you should be looking for.  Your final question for yourself is "How much am I willing to invest to pursue this additional revenue?"  Here is an example of how this could work:

150     No. of add'l customers I can accommodate each month

X  $25     Average monthly expenditure of each customer

$3,750     Potential add'l revenue per month

Using this example, you might set a monthly promotional budget at $375 (10% of potential add'l revenue).  There are two things to remember.  First, if you acquire and retain a new customer, the revenue stream will be ongoing for as long as you keep the customer.  Second, have patience.  Your promotions are unlikely to have a lot of immediate impact.  Be prepared to persist for up to a year before you notice a significant increase in your revenues.

So, how do you invest your promotion budget.  The obvious answer is "Saturate your local area with low cost sales messages."  If you offer a product or service which consumers purchase on a regular basis, such a beauty shop or restaurant, a discounted direct mail option such as Every Door Direct Mail, or a coupon mailing service could be a good choice for you.  On the other hand, if your products or services are only periodically needed, such as a plumber, low cost weekly ads in church bulletins can build your image, plus put you before the customer when they have a need.

Good luck!
