Guess What? We will take your old film too!
Unused film does have a shelf life. It can tri x processing vary greatly depending on the film type and how the film was stored. But film is an organic material, and even when stored in a freezer its properties change over time. Also, there has been great improvement in film technology over the years! With newer film stocks, better processing options and more, why not take advantage of everything film has to offer today!

If you find a roll of unopened film, trade it in with Pro8mm for new, fresh stock.  Old Pro8mm/Super 8 Sound films with pre-paid processing included will get a $15 credit towards any new stock. Other old or outdated Super 8 stocks of any kind will get a $10 credit.

Why do we want your old stock you may ask? A few reasons:
#1: We want you to be successful with your Super 8 filmmaking. By using fresh stock with new technology, your chances of getting clear, crisp images increase dramatically.

#2: We can actually use it! Pro8mm uses old film to test cameras! We need film to test collimation and scratch test, so why not recycle!

Music Video for PNKYSWR "Major Player"

We love the latest music video for PNKYSWR, Major Player, shot entirely using Pro8mm workflows! We had a chance to catch up with DP David Dibble, Director Erik Wong and leader singer Effie Liu! PNKYSWR "Major Player" Music Video

Pro8mm: What was the idea for the music video?

D. Dibble: The idea for this video was for it to be simple, fun, low tech and reminiscent of music videos from the 80's. The band, and this song in particular, has a vintage 30's/40's vibe so Super 8 was the obvious choice for creating an overall eclectic, retro-inspired look.

Pro8mm: What Super 8 camera and film stocks did you use?

D. Dibble: I used the Max1014 XL-S with the Max8 Modification. Since this was very low budget and we had to shoot at an almost run-and-gun pace, we used the Pro8/13 200 ASA film stock. While it gave us the classic film look, we were safe with the wide latitude.

Pro8mm: Erik, why did you choose to use Super 8 film for the look of the music video?

E. Wong: There are many different ways you can achieve a "retro" look digitally these days, but I strongly believe that there is something about the texture of images acquired in true Super 8mm that can never be fully replicated with even the most state-of-the-art digital post-production techniques. Everyone I had screen this video has viscerally responded to the quality of the images and the nostalgic feeling that it evokes.

Pro8mm: Effie, What are your thoughts on the final music video?

E. Liu: When Erik suggested Super 8 film over digital, I thought it was a perfect solution because it was a more economical route, and it gave us the authentic throwback look we wanted.

Music Video for US and US Only, Rapture, by Director Tyler Davis

Director Tyler Davis finished a music video for Us and Us only, shot entirely on one of our HD 6-roll packages!

Us and Us Only "Rapture"

Tyler says:

"The band originally approached me with interest in doing a 'grim' music video. So with little to go by, I thought of old school 16mm horror movies and how the grim reaper is often symbolized but never portrayed. Pro8mm immediately came to mind due to my awesome experience with some home movie tester rolls I shot in the recent past, so combining the medium of film with a homemade tale of the grim reaper only seemed logical. After the film came in, me and some friends biked and skateboarded around Baltimore and then hit the road with an old school 1982 kawasaki kz440 motorcycle. Needless to say we were all stoked on the footage when it came back, everything just lined up perfectly for this project from pre-production to post, and I could not have done any of it without Pro8mm! We shot Super 8/85 100D for the exteriors and Pro8/43 160 T for the interior."
